I took my Savage 22-250,Savage .223 and my Bushy AR to the p-dog town the other day. I must say, my shooting even impressed me! Good thing i took the newer pickup with air conditioning to help keep the barrels cool cause I shot much more than i had planned. Shooting into the wind keeps the varmints from being as shy and running to their holes. This is one of the many 2 and 3 kills at one hole.

A bit of overkill, wouldn't you say? Having only seen p'dogs during basic training at Fort Sill, OK, I don't know much about them.

Are they considered a varmint and a nuisance? What do you do with the carcasses, leave them for the buzzards?

YES. They make holes...livestock step in the holes...livestock break their leg...it's easier to shoot p-dogs than your own cows.

Whoa, tough job for the taxidermist there.

Good shooting.

What load were you using for the .223? What range?

The ar is gett ing 25.o grains of 8208 and a 55 gr v-max. The bolt is getting 28.5gr of BL-c2 with 40 gr v-max.

Woops! The range was from 100 yards to around 300 and a few farther. Shooting into the wind helps keep the noise from the varmints.

Not really an overkill, just good shot placement! 40, 55 and 52gr bullets.

I need to double check, but that sounds about like what I'm loading with 8208 and 55g V-max.

I'm using Lapua brass for the bolt 223's and 28.5 just about fills the cases. 2.280 OAL. 25g of 8208 for the AR with 55g v-max and 35.0g of 8208 and 52g a-max for the 22-250.
