I found a guy who has bought a bunch of these things from LE trade ins, he is asking 300 OTD. Comes with night sites and one 12 round mag. .40 caliber and look great. What should keep me from jumping on this?

... if in doubt ... yes?
Can another gun really hurt?

P.S.
Yes. As in ... you definitely should. I don't much care for the trigger guard, but the P99 is *excellent* platform. And even though S&W probably didn't get ze Tscherman engineering right, (insert patriotic pride here) that platform alone is reason enough to get it. 8)

Assmuning condition limited to reasonable carry wear, for $300? Heck yeah.

That is a wholesale price, at least for me. I paid the same for my 40. I paid 450 for the 45ACP version from a private party, but it wasn't a police trade in. I prolly overpaid on the 45, but I really like shooting this platform. The mag release does take some getting used to though. I say get it.

I'd get it. $300 is my impulse purchase threshold. If I look at it and I want it, unless it's grossly overpriced, then $300 or under it's usually a sale (at least as long as TOO many of those opportunities don't come along at once :)). You can get $200-300 back on the sale of just about any of the autoloader pistols excluding a few specific brands (that don't include S&W or Walther). It's not like you'll take much if any hit on the resale if it turns out that you don't like it.

I would, even if you decided you didn't want it anymore you could easily resell it and get your money back on it.

I have a Walther P99 and I like it a lot, the SW99 doesn't really do anything for me but I've heard they are pretty decent guns. For $300 it would make a nice car gun.
