I have a Colt Official Police .38 special that I am wondering the value of.

I would like to know its age and approx. value. the serial number is 7229xx

under the serial number is a 1. it has a 4 inch barrel and rear trench site.

I will post pictures soon, this gun is in very good condition I believe

Looks like it was made in 1945, it's 5 years older than mine. :)

Found here www.proofhouse.com

I will let others discuss value.

Photos would be a big plus in guesstimating some value, but if you head over to gunbroker and search "official police" you get asking prices ranging from $285 on upwards of $600 (more for .22lrs than the .38s).

Ballpark ask of $250 until you have photos that offer more value... but few people want the old police pony anymore it seems.

here are some pictures, most of the bluing is very nice and glossy, only a little wear around the edges, the bore looks perfect, looks like this pistol was hardly fired.

If I was selling that gun I would ask $300 for it.

If I was buying it I would offer $250.

Not super valuable but a great gun to own and shoot.

I paid $250.00 for this one not too long ago. Your's look to be in better shape.

In my part or the world that is a 300+ gun, maybe up to 350.

Of course gun prices are regional and in Austin the economy is stronger than most, so this is the high end.

325 is my estimate.
