Went to the range this morning with my Ruger 22/45, which I picked up during the summer. I have taken it out a few times, but it was always to shoot at cans and such, and rarely at paper targets.
I brought 450 rounds of Remington bulk pack .22lr, and shot through roughly 370 rounds. By then, my thumb had a very large blister from loading magazines, so I figured I would give it a rest.
The pistol performed pretty well, although I did have 2 failures- 1 to fire, and 1 to extract. I had only had one other failure with this pistol since I purchased it, and it was also a FTE.
Most of my shooting is done at selfdefense distances, so I rarely shoot anything longer than 10 yards, although I did shoot a few targets at roughly 20 yards.
As you can imagine, getting good hits at 10 yard is very easy with this little pistol. The sights are pretty close now that I have adjusted them, and the trigger breaks cleanly. Add in that the recoil is very minute and its easy to see why its easy to get good hits. While shooting at a standard 25yd target, almost all of my hits were in the black, and any hits that werent were from rapid firing.
The pistol is very comfortable in my hand, and is for the most part very comfortable to shoot. Although, whenever the pistol goes into slide lock, it feels like my trigger finger is getting pinched somehow, on the back side. It only does this after the last round, when the pistol goes into slidelock. Other than that, its a great pistol to shoot.
I never bothered to shoot any 5 round groups to really see what I could do, instead I was shooting a 10 round magazine, then often times shooting a second magazine at the same target. I would alternate, slow fire, fairly rapid fire, and sometimes very rapid fire. My results for all three were pretty similar.
The attached photo shows a 50 round group, most of the shots fired rapid fire.
All in all I am pretty happy with this pistol, and I think it will make an excellent training too.
