Very impressed with Glock 19

Took my wife's new Glock 19 to the range for the first time today. First round -- first round ever shot through the barrel (except maybe at the factory) -- bullseye. The rest of my shots weren't as good, but they were close. Not a single jam or failure in 100 rounds.

I've considered myself a Sig guy, but I have to say that the new Glock is most impressive, both in its accuracy and its simplicity from a maintenance perspective.

That is pretty much how it went for me, after less than satisfactory results with revolvers and DA/SA pistols. I even took to the grip angle.

The G19 is one of the best Glock has to offer in my book.

The wife must be really pleased with her new gun. I hope she got a chance to shoot it, too!

I shoot the best with the 19 and was saving up to get one but then came across a deal to good to pass up on a 26. I shot good with the 19 though from the very first bullet it just feels natural to me.

Seems everyone loves the compact glocks. Why no love for the full sized ones?

I haven't had the privilege to shoot a compact yet, just a glock 22.

After grinding the finger grooves off my Gen 3 G34, I have developed a new appreciation of the gun.

Grinding the finger grooves off the gun improved my ability to shoot it well and I now enjoy it as much as my Gen 2 G19.

I still consider the G19 one of the very best general use, multi tasker, 9mm handguns available today, even with all the new and upcoming designs making their appearances.

I agree, the Glock 19 is one of the best all around high capacity firearm. It is good at the nightstand, and CC.

The G19 is a marvel of firearms engineering, a true wonder nine. Hell, The Wonder Nine in my book.

A 4th Gen G19 may end up being the 5th Glock added to the fam.

If you think the G19 shoots great then you should get the G34. Unbelievable shooter, like a laser, fast too, just draw point and fire. Next to the 1911 it is the most used platform in USPSA, there are good reasons for this. Let your wife have her G19, buy all means get your own Glock. I have 5 SIG pistols and a 556 rifle, only one Glock the G34, the only one I need. The grip angle, the one most non Glock shooters whine about, is a contributor to how quickly and accurately it shoots. I recently had a stage in a match that had a target visable for about 1.5 sec, 6 hits in and around the center of mass.

I didn't get good with my G34 until I ground the finger grooves off the front strap.
Suddenly my ability to shoot the pistol well fell into place.
I now shoot better groups with it than I do with the G19 and I am no slouch with the G19.

Before I modified my G34, I shot the G19 better.

op,
welcome to thr, yes the glock 19 is a great choice, and your experiences is the rule not the exception. they are reliable, accurate and one of the best choices for a "fighting handgun".

All 9mm Glocks are fantastic. I currently have a G26. :)

I think the grip on the Gen 4's would be abrasive on your hand after a few mags. Anybody shot one?

It is not there is no love, it is just that the full sized ones are better for police duty, where guns are carried openly, than for the concealed carry most of us do. I maintain that the G19 is the most size efficient (smallest that still holds 15 rounds in the magazine) handgun out there. The extra size of the full size models only gains you two rounds.

Have carried both. Was not any more difficult for me to carry the full sized.

Carry a full sized Gen 4. No problems with the texture on the grip. Handled an RFT and it was like holding a cheese grater.

Apparently the Glock 19 has been around for 22 years already. I have seldom heard a bad word about it. A solid, compact, user-friendly piace of equipment.

Once again, the Glock 19 performed flawlessly. And when I modified my grip -- index finger of supporting hand on front of trigger guard -- I was shooting two inch groups in and around dead center. This is not common for me! I can see why some of you guys own several Glocks.

Now if I could only get near the target with my Kahr PM9, I'd be a happy man.

Glocks are tanks. The simplicity of them makes them reliable, accurate, and easy to maintain. Personally, the grip angle doesn't work out for me, but I respect them as they have been proven reliable.

Yeah I was gonna say shouldn't she have taken the first shot out of her new gun? :neener:
They really are nice all around guns, haven't heard anyone I know that's shot one have anything bad to say about them.

I carried a G26 for about a year and finally traded it off for a CZ PO1 which is a much better handgun for me. Since the G19 isn't much bigger than a G26 I opted for the G17 and the jury is still out on this one since I haven't shot it much to realize the potential to keep it, but so far I think I like it better than the compact Glocks...

i conducted 4 days of handgun training on one occasion, and another 2 days on another occasion with 3m outdoor step tape on my handgun, and I personally had no issues with it. That stuff is much more abrasive than any finish on a glock that i have held including the RTF's and the Gen 4's.

My G30 is the most accurate handgun I've ever fired. I did just buy a G17. Not real concealable but feels awesome in my hand and fires perfectly.
