Cobra Patriot 45

Well, I went ahead and picked up my new pistol, a Cobra Patriot 45.

I have a few pictures, taken with my crumby little cellphone, attached below.
(Point of info: the slide is backwards. This is what happens when you snap photos on 2 hours of sleep!)

My first impressions are actually very positive. Despite having cost me only $250 it is a very solid pistol. It tears down very nicely and reassembles just as easily. The angle on the grip is perfect for me, the gun feels very solid, and there's not rattling when you shake it. It's very slim, roughly about the same thickness as a 1911. The mags hold 6 and 7 rounds (7 obviously being the one with the larger boot). I've also read that it will take 1911 Officer mags with little to no modification. I'll be getting my hands on one or two to test next month. It's also got a very heavy trigger on it. This has been a blessing to some and a curse to others. Because of my monstrous hands it's a good thing for me. The pull is about 12lbs, give or take, which is perfect for me especially since it is without an external safety.

I haven't gotten it out to shoot yet, I'm hoping to do that this afternoon or Wednesday. As soon as I do I'll get a range report written up for you folks. I'm not expecting much for accuracy outside of average engagement range considering it's a 3" barrel but I'm still excited.

And for those of you who, like me, love specs I offer you the following from Cobra's website:

Caliber: .45acp
Capacity: 6 Rounds (Standard), 7 Round Extended Available
Sights: Fixed
Barrel Length: 3.3"
Overall Length: 6"
Weight: 19oz Empty
Frame Material: Black Polymer
Slide Material: Stainless Steel
Action: Double

Now, the slide finish does not feel like it's been blued. It feels closer to melonite or a parkerized finish. I'm still trying to find out for certain what kind of coating it is.

Well, thanks for reading and like I said, I'll update with a range report once I get to put some rounds through it.

Questions welcome!

I will be eagerly waiting for your range report. I wouldn't expect spectacular groups either, especially with a 12 pound DA trigger. However, I suspect it will be accurate enough for what it's intended for (defensively putting lead in/through the fellow attacking you).

I am more curious as to the reliability of this pistol, especially with JHPs.

Kind Sir:

While I am very interested in your gun and your upcoming range report... I currently have my monitor set to a resolution of 1440 x 900, larger than many viewing the web currently, and your pictures won't fit on screen. This is frankly ridiculous.

You can re-size these photos to a reasonable size quickly, easily, and for FREE:
1) go to: Start > all programs > accessories > paint
2) Open your photo, using the 'File' menu
3) from the program menu: Image > resize / skew
4) Change the values for 'Horizontal' and 'Vertical' to '25' or '30' in BOTH categories, and click OK
5) save the image, using the 'File' menu

This process takes 10 seconds or less per photo, and should be done prior to upload to your hosting service. Not only will it allow them to fit on peoples screens, it will make them a bit sharper as well.

My apologies. I am just so used to forums utilizing a little bit of CSS to automatically adjust user-linked images to a more acceptable size when posted.

Images resized to 640x480 for members' better viewing pleasure.
