So, there are dozens of locked threads on THR regarding this topic - and these threads get locked quickly...

There is a flash advertisement at the bottom of THR on this topic, however.

So why then, do I ask, does The HIGH ROAD accept advertising from a group asking others to sign a petition on the topic? Presumably there's advertising dollars at work too...

Am I missing something..?

I didn't see the ad... are these new banners just Google ad's? If so, the mods have little control over their content. Google ad's usually let you block ad's for things like porn sites, and spam sites that make you an "instant winner", but anti-gun ad's can make it onto a pro-gun site very easily.

I noticed the same thing earlier today.

I noticed this as well, I did think this was odd.

As to the topic itself, we have essentially nothing to fear. At the current time, we can't even get a treaty passed to renew the monitoring of nuclear weapons between the US and Russia. Getting some sort of mega disarmament treaty signed? Impossible.

I want them to pass it. I want to see foreign troops with blue helmets here on U.S. soil trying to enforce it.;)

That would be more fun than a normal day at the range...

Am I hearing some concern about the "Lock Down" of certain threads that seem.....let's say arbitrarily quick? I've commented on this before and I was basically told, "ssshhhhh"! I would have to question whether some have infiltrated their way into this site as Moderators in an attempt to control the conversations here, or did someone get to them and tell them to cool things down? I'm not accusing the moderators of that, but it does have that appearance from time to time.

...why ... does The HIGH ROAD accept advertising ... on the topic?
These types of things happen on many different forums. I've been to computer tech forums where you see ads for all kinds of registry repair software. At the same time, the moderators, administrators, and the specific online community as a whole, all recommend that you never ever use any registry repair software. They (forums) want the ads, but can't control the content. As an aside, on those computer tech forums, if you bring up the apparent hypocrisy, thready goes locky real quick.

In order:

1) The 'legacy' threads that you reference got locked because they usually contained lots of ranting without data, and invariably devolved into political rants instead of focusing on the actual RKBA activism aspects of the issue. The display of links to off-site content does not cause that level of heat-without-light.
2) Banner ads have been introduced to THR, displaying targeted ads from RKBA organizations and activities.
3) Because the ad is non-political and supports THRs mission statement of fostering the RKBA.
4) AFAIK, the current ads are being displayed pro bono, but it's expected that they will transition to paying ads at some point in the life of the forum.

Derek's call for RKBA organizations to support is here:
