I finally got my Custom Carry 9mm in after ordering it in Feb. I only put 300 rounds through it this weekend but my initial impressions are that I am very satisfied with this gun. The fit and finish are a lot like the Ed Brown Kobra I had, very precise and not overly tight. The finish is impeccable. This is a very smooooootthhhh gun. The trigger was every bit the 4.5 lbs it was advertised to be. The gun is more accurate than I am and was 100% reliable with the supplied Springfield mags and my Wilson 10 rounders.

There were two minor issues however. The first was that I ordered the gun with Black G10 grips but it was shipped with the Standard Cocobolo. The second was that Springfield over charged my credit card by $125. Both of these problems were easily rectified with a phone call. SA custom service is top notch.

I will probably order one more nice 1911 in .45 before I am done (or that is what I keep telling myself but you know how that goes) and I was trying to decide what to get. I had thought getting a Guncrafter No Name, but now I am not so sure. I may get a matching Custom Carry in .45.

I detail stripped the gun yesterday as well. The smiths at Springfield worked on every single part of this gun with extreme care. The hammer hook and sear engagement is perfect. Every part is fit right and polished (unlike say my TRS which needed some polishing in the hammer, needed the trigger track and trigger bow polished some and had fitting marks at different places in the gun).

The trigger pull weighed 4.5 lbs on my scale. I replaced the sear spring with a less heavy duty one and clipped two coils off of the main spring. Now the trigger breaks at 3 lbs and is still very crisp.

Very nice!

I had one ordered last year and would have it now too, but I had to cancel the order early this year due to health problems. Thankfully, they let me do it, and thankfully, I have recovered.

But, very sweet gun! Mine would have been in 9mm too.

Congrats! But IMHO, 3lb trigger pull is too light for a carry gun. That is if you plan on carrying it.

IMHO, if I'm gonna carry a large frame auto, its gonna be a 45acp or better. Different strokes!

kamagong, those grips are nice, where'd you find them?

Well I finally got my Black G10 grips in. Ill try and post pics sometime tonight.

Very nice!

Shipwreck your full rail 9mm was one of the deciding factors. Go ahead and sell that Ed Brown and get another SA Custom lol.

what's the price range

$1900 to my FFL. You might could get it cheaper if you went through a dealer, I dealt with the custom shop directly. Someone will have to verify that however.

I agree. This gun is comparable to any of my other semi-custom/limited production/*** ( where's the fun) ever the word police want to call them guns. Actually after owning all of them I would rank this way:

1. Wilson/Nighthawk
2. SA Custom
3. Baer
4. Brown.

Just my humble opinion after owning the above brands. The only reason SA Custom is not in the #1 spot for me is that if you want less than a 4.5lb trigger it is extra. I changed my pull for $5 and 10 mins worth of work.

Congrats! But IMHO, 3lb trigger pull is too light for a carry gun.

Now you would not be planning on breaking the 4th Law of Gun Saftey would you?

That is if you plan on carrying it

Not really. When I carry a 1911 it is usually in .45. I might carry this some, but not that often. In 9mm I like this one:

Whatever gives you a warm fuzzy. Personally, I dont think a .45 is big enough or powerful enough to make up for a bad shot. I carry both a 9mm and .45, but it is because I like and I am proficient with the gun, not because of a caliber deficiency.

kamagong, those grips are nice, where'd you find them?

Yes do tell.

I've seen it on my thread, great pistol ,I love my Springfield Longslide, needs some wood grips. Again here's mine an STI Custom 9mm. Will the Springer take Wilson ETM 10 round mags? My Colt series 70 9mm will not. Does it have a ramped barrel or ramped frame? Actually the new grips look great they match the gun perfectly!

Yes sir it will take the Wilsons. That is one in the newest picture I believe. The only mags I have in 9mm are Wilson and the 2 Springfield mags that came with it (Metalform maybe?)
