Haven't even been able to do another drive by.

I'm on a seven day work schedule right now. I come in, spend a few minutes catching up on the boards, and then fall into bed. Probably going to be after new years's before I get a chance to look the place over.

I heard it isn't opening.

His exact words to me were: "Hell, you'll NEED your gun just to get to that range if it's where I'm thinking it's going to be". Not a very encouraging comment, I thought. Didn't Ray have plans to put the range downtown?

That is rather disappointing...I was looking forward to having a decent range I could go to w/o having to drive an hour(especially indorr with this snow outside I don't see heading to knob creek too soon...).

KR, Ray originally said that the "new" range" would be in J-town (Jeffersontown). -Guess that didn't work out.

I heard that the range was supposed to open in December so I assumed that it opened around the first of the month. Not sure though.

I won't get a chance to stop by there until January (I'm almost as busy as Garrettwc!) but I will definitely stop then and give a report. I will see if I can find a phone number for it. Maybe Spark is right... maybe it will never open.

I am not for sure that their location would work for me anyway, but I want to give then a chance if and when they do open.

This is the same guy who thinks gun registration is swell. No thanks. He can stuff it.

Now there's a ghost from my past.

Good ol' Bob DePrez.

Does he still have that pawn shop in Okolona?

He lived 4 houses down from the house I grew up in.

He's come a long way from being so anti-government that he advocated burning school buses in 1975 and handed out KKK literature.

It's amazing how people change once they climb into a higher tax bracket.

He STILL owes me for newspapers I delivered to him in 1970 that he never paid for!

I'd like to know where he works, so I can avoid it.

...he says one thing, then does another.
First, I heard that the store & range was going to be in J-Town. Then I heard that he'd said the place was going to be on Fern Valley Rd. After that, I heard that Ray had planned to put the place downtown. (In a scary location.) Now, I hear that it's been put off again.

I used to buy booze at DePrez Liquors on Preston. Same "anti-gun" guy? Anybody know?

I was in the Deprez pawn shop just last week, trolling for pistol bargains. None found. Had a used Glock for $499, which is what I pay for a new one. Didn't see a vintage hi-power for $200 like I was hoping. :)

Back to the topic, I'll stick with Knob Creek, even if it is cold and muddy. And because its the only game in town. Heh.

I called and talked to Julie today. It was difficult to hear actually but I am pretty sure she said that the "retail store" will open on the 23rd of December. She said the range would open "sometime after that".

So apparently it has not opened yet and there is no solid date AFAIK.

Wasn't that DuPrez Liquors? Anyway no relation as far as I know.

I always preferred Round The World at Outer Loop and Old Shep around the corner from Milton's. :D

I've been going to Bluegrass Indoor Range in Lexington or to Clark State Forest in In, weather permitting. I guess I need to bite the bullet and try knob creek again.

Check out the Bluegrass Indoor Rage at
http://www.bluegrassrange.com

It's a great place and the owner and staff are very friendly and accomodating. If you're ever in there, be sure to tell them how much you'd like to see them open a range near Louisville so that you could patronize it.

The comparison between it and the old Ray's that we all "loved" is night and day.

That's the one in Henryville right? How is that? I've never been up there to check it out.

Thank you for putting that up. My house is in the east end of Louisville. It takes me almost an hour to get to Knob Creek. I can be in Lexington in an hour.
I think I'll just drive over there and check it out.

Hey Will, I am headed to Lexington today, leaving town around 2pm. Maybe I will see you there! Check PM.

And yes, Garrettwc, the range in IN that I speak of is in the Clark State forest between Henryville and Scottsburg.

A few things you should know about shooting there;

1) No shooting on Sunday. Period.
2) There are two ranges there. One is a public range the other is a LEO range. Do not use the LEO range even if it is not in use at the time.
3) When Sherrif Departments book the LEO range they shut the whole place down. This has become more frequent as of late because a few LEO ranges in IN have shut down due to health hazards. For that reason, it is best to call the Clark State Forrest DNR in advance to make sure that the range is open. Call (812) 294-4306. They can also give you directions.
4) Traffic from Louisville has increased, so if you head up there on the weekend, be prepared to wait in line.
5) There is no range officer on duty. Conservation officers will show up occasionally. See next item.
6) Before using the range you must sign the range register. The catch is that the range register is not at the range. It's 2 miles away at the DNR office. There is a sign posted at the range that says "all persons must register..blah..blah..." They are serious. Go to the DNR and register. They want as many people to register as possible - it helps with their funding for cleanup. The conservation officers will give you a lot of grief if you don't register at the DNR before shooting.
7) Anyone from Louisville who wants to bring their Handguns to IN better have a CCDW liscense on them. You can be guaranteed that the Conservation Officers who spot check the range will ask for ID and Liscense/permits. Once you get to know the Officers that work the park they are a very friendly bunch. But as you can imagine, they are visited upon by a bunch of yahoos who don't know how to behave in public much less at a public range.

There is some great hiking to be done in the Clark State Forest! Plan ahead and take advantage of it!

Thanks Dom, I may drive up there to look first, and take advantage of the hiking.

That's a lot of restrictions just to go shoot, and the trip is about the same as going to Knob Creek for me. I may try it out,

What's the range itself like? Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun?

Is is a static range where you have to stand as a predesignated point or can you do multiple targets, advance - retreat, etc?

I need a place where I can shoot on my own complicated schedule, and practice my defensive shooting skills.

Maybe next week though. Heated, air conditioned, sound proofing, steel plates between stations, HEPA filters???
I won't know how to act!:p
