It hits my thumb when shooting and I find that it is totally unnecessary to begin with, the stock latches on S&W revolvers are PLENTY big. On a gun that I might carry I actually take and grind the stock latch down, taking the bottom-rear corner closest to your thumb and rounding it off. I reduce the height and smooth the edges quite a bit so it does not bite me first of all and does not tear up my clothes and/or holsters secondly. Reloading a revolver is a two handed affair for even the most holy of revolver shooters, the tactile memory required to hit the latch with both hands to index the weapon is very small. A little practice is all you need.
Time and money is much better spent practicing hitting the charge holes with your speed loaders IMO, that is something that takes a lot of practice to do well.

I have no use for the oversized cylinder latches. I like the original square versions I have on all my Smiths. I've never had one bit of trouble with them and prefer them to the redesigned one S&W uses now.
I've used N and K frames for hunting, plinking, early IPSC matches and carrying on the job. I practiced till it was second nature to go straight to the latch.

Especially in the timed competitive games. As long as they clear the speedloaders. :D

It wasn't broken, so Smith & Wesson fixed it.
