You still can't beat either 4895 for the gas operated semi-auto or you may want to try Varget. So far I've found Varget to be the most accurate powder in my NM M1A.

I have no personal experience with the Winchester rifle, but I've shot a zillion .308 handloads in M1 and M1A rifles. The best load I've found is a 165 or 168gr bullet with 41.5gr of either 4895.

My favorite site for gas operated rifle loads is this one:

Those Winchester rifles were the subject of a recall over their firing pins some 25 years ago. Make sure yours was retrofitted with the new type firing pin that did not swell up and stick in the forward position.

Yep, 41.5gr of IMR4895 for 165gr bullets, and 42.5gr of IMR4895 for 150gr bullets.

Sorry I don't have any real input for this but it has caused me to want to ask an`other question so sorry if I hijack your thread a little bit.

I have a 308 bolt (Marlin) That I shoot 4064 out of and so far I am really happy with the load, but is this powder not very good for a semi? I ask because I plan on getting a AR-15 or DPMS someday soon and I kinda only wanted to have to load one round. Is that not going to be possible?

4064 loads are in the Hornady manual .308 Service Rifle section. I personally have a 4064 load for .308 that is 40 gr behind a 168 Match bullet that has been very accurate.
