The Mags have to be modified to work in the AR-10. So to answer your question yes and no.
Armalite either does this modification or has them out-sourced, I'm not sure which.

I believe after the modification the magazine will still work in an M1A.

uses the military M14 magazine.
This is in all probability the AR10's only weakness.
It is quite easy during a quick mag swap to override the mag release with these mags and jam the everlovin' hell out of things.
