I reacently went to my local gun store and was looking at the 22's. I had never messed with any of the browning 22's so i asked to play with one. The guy handed me a basic one with rubber grips. I really liked it, but the guy behind the counter handed me a a 5.5 field model and told me i would like it better. I really really liked the 5.5 field, but is it worth the extra $150.
thanks alot
greg

Well, I got an "at cost" deal on a 5.5 Nickel Target way back and I couldn't be more pleased with it. I like the ballence better than my Dad's Ruger Mk. II Government Competition slab side.

The answer as to weather or not it's worth the extra money will depend on how much you shoot it and what you'll be using it for. I'm not even familiar with the differances between the Standard and the Field models.

if that's the right model I'm thinking of. Do you forsee scoping the gun at all? Personally, I can't abide by the round post front sight. I much prefer a patridge blade. If it's the heavy barrel you prefer, you can always order and install a spare barrel of your choice amongst the differing models of BuckMarks.

My dad has one and loves it. Shoots great with it and has put a red dot on it. A guy that I shoot steel plates with uses one that has a hooded front sight that he says is the end-all, be-all for him. Just fill the tube with steel and pull the trigger.

I personally prefer the Rugers, but that is what I started with and have never had a reason to change.

Good Luck Hunting.

A shooting buddy has a basic Buckmark & it has been alot of fun to shoot...accurate, reliable, dependable. It might take someone who has compared the two to really decide.

Thoughts from a old timer, as good as the Buckmark is I would put it back and look for the older Challenger series that pre-dates it. The Challenger II was the first model with the 1911 style grip frame and was one fine .22lr handgun. Blued steel and wood from the days gone past.

3 Buckmarks in my shooting buddies and they all run like swiss watches. Mine is an old hand with way over 80K downrange, the second is likely approaching 8000, and the 3rd is a virgin almost with only 1500 or so.

I have had a couple other 22 target pistols, basically everything but a Smith 41 even though I have shot them quite a bit, and I like my Buckmark Standard better than anything else. It works, it fits and it is accurate.

Buckmark and Colt Cadets are 2 of my personal favorites... followed by the SIG Trailside.

Hello,

The Field model, along with the scope mounting rib and fatter barrel, should also have an adjustable (within a certain range) trigger. Whether or not you will benefit from those additions is really up to you.

Among the .22 LR pistols I currrently own, four are Browning BuckMarks:

4" Micro with adjustable sights.
5.5" Standard with adjustable sights.
5.5" Target with Tasco Accu-Dot.
10" Silhouette with Simmons 2x scope.
