I don't understand, and I'm sure this question will be easily answered. Why in the world is .22 cal ammunition so much cheaper than 9mm rounds?

Cost of materials and shipping come to mind. Possibly economies of scale.

It takes less raw material and fewer manufacturing operations to produce a round. Additionally, they sell more rounds...the .22lr is the best selling round in the American market
