I'm going 10mm

Feb 3 is the pick-up date for the g-20. Thank all of you who responded to my earlier post. Believe it or not the positive responses was the final factor for my purchase. What the 10mm will mainly replace is my .357mag. for car and hog carry. When I go on the road I like the power of the .357, in case I have to penetrate a car door or windshield. Advantage 10mm in the power factor, and 15rd vs 6rd is a plus. The .357 is/was my up close and personal hog getter-now I can't wait to see what a .40cal 180g Gold Dot will do to a piggy. The reason for the 3Feb date is that it was pawned and Fl law requires x amount of days before the pawn shop can transfer the gun. But, I've already obtained 300 Ga Arms Gold Dots, and the dies and bullets are on their way-I'm still deciding on the 6" hunting barrel which would also allow me to shoot cast bullets.

Welcome to the Dark Side.

KKM and Bar-Sto seem to be very popular aftermarket Glock barrels.

Sean, Dad-Gummit hasn't gone/come over to the Dark Side! I prefer to believe that he's just another shooter that's seen the Light!

And for you non-10mm'ers, none of that "walk into the light" stuff, grrrr!

Hey, that's nice........another spray and pray shooter.......I have 4 hunting handguns and they sure aren't a semi-auto 10MM.....not saying the 10 won't do the job, but, mine have scopes and probably will not need more than one shot.......

Since you're not the one buying a 10mm auto, I guess it's completely irrelevant what guns you have and what you do with them.

And where did he say he was a 'spray-and-pray shooter'? Maybe I missed it in the original post.

Alright Jem375-I'll take you into a swamp with mud to your knees, and with one hand try to hold a dog, and your other hand pull out your fine scoped one shot killer, and try to dispatch a highly pissed off hog-good luck.

There are just better choices in handgun hunting that's all......well, too each his own, I guess.............good luck, hunting.. hope you get a big porker with the 10MM, hope to go down to Texas this year for a hunt of my own..........about time the casull got a workout..........good luck..........

Yet another right-thinking American chooses the 10mm Auto.

 Congrats.

As already noted, you can find extremely valuable info and insights from veteran 10mm shooters over on GT's 10Ring. A lot of experienced reloaders, like MCNETT, hang out there and have shared a ton of valuable info with the group about reloading the 10mm.

Just doing a Search on your interest in hog hunting will turn up a few recent posts. IIRC, a guy recently posted about his hog hunting experience with his fixed-sight G-20 (w/ pictures). This guy took an absolutely MASSIVE 300lb hog with 2 shots, using Texas Ammo's 10mm 200gn load which launches a Hornady 200gn XTP-HP @ 1250fps/694ft-lbs. I don't have the link to his post handy, but a quick Search will turn it up.

By the way, the consensus seems to be that XTPs bullets are excellent for handgun hunting, maybe more so than the 10mm Gold Dots, but those are great for self-defense.

Another great 10mm group is over on Pistolsmith.com. Just click down to the "10mm" group link.

HTH. :)

Actually I'm Gregbullet on Glocktalk. I earlier posted the question on a trade for the g-20. The majority of the 10mm's changed my mind and gave me a good price to offer-the offer was accepted, but I had to sell my g-17 to finance it(with enough left over for the dies, bullets etc). I'll start the reloading "research" when I get the gun, but I like the ability to shoot 3 calibers with only a 15second barrel change.

Get the longer barrel for hunting the 10mm can make good use of the extra inch.

be advised...15 round magazines are spendy. Here's hoping that the "hicap" law dies soon.

Yeah, if you can find them the going rate for Glock 20 standard (15-round) magazines is about $120.

Sean,

That's why I was SOOooo happy to luck into a NFML preban G20 at a local show a couple weeks back. I'd take a few more preban 15rd. G20 mags at $75 each, NFML or FML, as that price it wouldn't matter to me.

Isn't it a bit perverted to have events lead one to consider a $75 high cap mag a "good find"?
