Does anyone know of a Scout (i.e. forward) mounting rail for scopes or red-dot sights that could be mounted on a FR8 rifle? At the moment, the only thing I can think of would be to screw a Picatinny rail onto the front wood barrel shroud - not very satisfactory, methinks. Anyone got any ideas?

A Ching Ring would probably be the way to go.

Yeah, there is a way. Here's the pic of what the guy did. When I get home, I'll check my notes for the explanation he gave. I seem to remember it's a mount from a Contender?

Edited to add: "Then I got a weaver 92A scope mount base for a T/C Contender. It fits the contour of the FR-8 barrel perfectly and I had the part of the barrel in front of the receiver drilled and tapped. "

If it is a standard Mauser stepped barrel the Contender will fit. I never took my FR8 out of the wood. I have an extra mount for a contender if you want it Preacherman. Let me know. It's free.

Drdremel, many thanks for your generosity! I'd love to have that mount. I've sent you a PM (under Tamara's userID, not mine - so please send any reply to user Preacherman, not Tamara, or we'll never get it sorted out! :D )

B-Square makes a series of munts which fit into the standard Mauser rear sight bases. I forget if the FR-8 still has a rear sight base or if they put a peep on the receiver. If it has a standard Mauser rear sight, this is a really good option as you do not have to modify the rifle - and they work great!!!

Mine is on a Yugo M48.

I've been looking for ways to scope my FR-8 without altering the rifle permanently. That rules out drilling and tapping. So far, I have not had any luck coming up with a solution.

Even if I break down and have the receiver drilled and tapped, I'd have to convert the bolt to a turndown for a regular scope, and possibly remove the rear sight aperture. That's a little too much surgery for my taste. That leaves a scout scope mount on the barrel where the top hand guard sits, but that would probably wreak havoc with the barrel harmonics.

The FR8 does not have a barrel mounted rear sight. Not to mention that the mounts do not hold a zero very well. I had one.

Preacherman, I'll get it out to you by Friday. I got it for a buck at a shop that was closing years ago. I still have two more for me, one of which I might put on my FR8 now that you got me thinking about it.
