Dammit Soda ... how come you guys out East seem to get most of the gun shows ..... round here they are way too infrequent!!:(

December 15, 2003, 11:08 PM
the "other soda" (myself) posted this a couple hours ago.

Anyway, who wants to meet me there?

A buddy of mine is running a table for Davids Guns

December 15, 2003, 11:22 PM
I was planning to go anyway.
I need a new holster for my new .45, amongst other things.

December 16, 2003, 12:02 AM
I'm not sure what my work schedule is yet.

I need some reloading dies and looking for .303 ammo.

These shows tend to be the best in the area. I have never been to the Harrisburg shows, but they are apparently the only shows that are better.

I see lots of people from NJ come to these shows.

P95Carry- it's worth the trip!

December 16, 2003, 12:38 AM
I'm looking for a taurus tracker .357 or a good deal on a Arsenal SAM-7

I'm likely to get neither because i still need to finish my HK .40 tactical project.

December 16, 2003, 08:14 AM
I’ll be the guy in the red flannel shirt…I’ll have a bolt-action Mossberg 12 ga. for sale on my shoulder. It’ll be missing the magazine, but I’ll still expect to sell it for $300.

Oh wait - there will be a lot of guys like that…

On a serious note, I’ll be there with my wife. She actually picked up a copy of “Gunproof Your Kids” by Mas Ayoob at the last VF show.

I was so proud…:D

I see lots of people from NJ come to these shows.

Need to pull out my Nappen book, but I don't think we can buy any long guns and I'm certain we can't buy handguns . . . . . so, what do they come for that they can't get online?

Need to go for a permit myself over the Holidays. Have a hankering for an HK USP 45 in Stainless . . . .

December 16, 2003, 10:02 AM

Let me guess, you also drive a Chevy 2500 with a lift kit, brush guard and a confederate flag bumper sticker? I always know i'm in the right parking lot when i see that.

December 16, 2003, 11:06 AM
No Confederate flag sticker...but my red flannel shirt is my gun show shirt.:D

Reminds me of an older guy that I would see at the shows when I was growing up (and sitting behind the tables). Every single show, he would show up in his blaze-orange Jones cap. He had a big white beard, and was only interested in WWII Japanese stuff. The hat, beard and interest was his trademark!

December 16, 2003, 12:59 PM
SodaPop ..... I really would like to come along ... wife even said today when I mentioned it .. why not go!! She has to work Sunday (to gain an extra day over Xmas) .. and so that'd be my choice.

Thing is ... almost entirely weather dependent so have to see. Anyways . which day will you guys all be goin? I'd really like to meet up if it worked out but of course you may be doin Saturday?

I'll have to watch forecast a bit longer ... we have more crud comin along soon but not sure what and when. Guess I'll make a decision end of week.

December 16, 2003, 01:21 PM
hey, let's set a time to meet. I say noon on saturday. What's everyone think? Anyway, i'll be wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and be taking a close look at every SAM-7 i see.

December 16, 2003, 01:32 PM
Well - if it is Saturday - and I can make it, but only Sunday .. then looks like I won't see any of you guys!:(

Oh well .... still the weather to know about ... and it is quite a long haul. But - I'd sure feel more like makin the journey tho if I knew I'd be able to meet some of y'all.

December 16, 2003, 03:57 PM
Which is it? Chester County or the York one? .. I imagine the latter .. which is considerably closer to me too.

December 16, 2003, 09:08 PM
what do they come for that they can't get online?

Extremely better deals on ammo.

I've seen 5.56 and 7.62Nato go for $130 per 1000rds at these shows. Not always, but sometimes. Usually, South African, and Portugese ammo.

There's no reason some of us can't meet on Saturday and others on Sunday.

I'm not sure of my work schedule but I most likely will be going on Sunday.

Clubsoda on Saturday and SodaPop on Sunday. :D

I've met several TFL members at these shows before and its where I usually do some recruiting for the PA Gatherings.

I'll let yas know when I'm going.

December 16, 2003, 09:17 PM
Soda ......... re my question above ... is this York, Valley Forge? ... those are ''foreign parts'' to me ya know!:p

December 16, 2003, 09:21 PM
Highland Ranger & other NJ inmates:

If you are qualified to buy longarms in NJ, you CAN buy longarms at the show!

Long story short: The FFL must obey PA and NJ laws, which means you have to fill out all the Federal & NJ paperwork, show your FID, etc, and certain longarms on the prohibited list will not be available to you.

The neato bit: NJ law states that the dealer must keep the NJ papers on file, which they obediently do.

Sadly, NJ doesn't have any jurisdiction to go to PA and audit said papers. Boo-hoo.

December 16, 2003, 09:32 PM
Valley Forge gun show is right across from Valley Forge Historic Park. It's not YORK.

Its straight down the PA turnpike get off at the 76 exit and then get off at the first exit and go about 1 mile and you're there.

December 16, 2003, 09:43 PM
get off at the 76 exit and then get off at the first exit  Well .. OK Turnpike is I 76 .... but, now looking at a map ... seems like we are talking outskirts of Phily!! Oh my *** quite some haul .... looks like exit #24 .... and head North a small ways yeah?

If exit#24 correct then ... what is that next exit you refer to?? Is it signed?? .. remember, I am totally strange to this area!!!

All will depend on weather .. but may be Ok ... need a more up to date 4cast yet tho. Plus .. would hope to see one of the ''Sodas'' at least if i do the Sunday - plus hopefully some other THR's too.:)

BTW - what's the ruling there re carry??

December 16, 2003, 09:53 PM
The Turnpike is 276 and the I-76 I was referring to is different.

Once you get off of 276 at the Valley Forge Exit you'll be on 76, make a Right at the first exit after the toll booth(which is North Gulph Road). Stay on that road for about a mile and you'll see the Sheraton Hotel, and the Valley Forge Convention Center next to it. They are the tallest buildings in the area and easy to spot.

If I go Sunday, I'll be there with a couple THR members.

You can't carry in the building.

December 16, 2003, 10:09 PM
The Turnpike is 276 and the I-76 I was referring to is different. Hmmm .... now I really am confused!!! Sorry if being thick here but lookin at map ... I 76 (which AFAIK !!!) is Penna Turnpike from West of me all way to Phily - Interstate 76/PA Turnpike!!!

Now, I see where I 76 (on which I would approach from ''out West!!!'') ....... splits to let 276 go on West, near ''King of Prussia'' according to map ... but that appears to be after I'd leave Turnpike anyways!.

I have to relate any directions to what my map/maps show .. so far - what I see is ..... before I'd even see 276, I would leave I 76 (westbound -- THE PA TURNPIKE!!) ... and hang a left to Valley Forge.

Oh well ... if i can make it I'll find it I guess!:p

December 16, 2003, 10:42 PM
Sheraton Park Ridge Hotel and Conference Center
480 North Gulph Road King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406

I see where you're getting confused. I see on the map where 76 becomes 276.

Look up the address I posted and it'll get you to the doorstep.

December 16, 2003, 10:45 PM
I will try to make the show, and remember to wear my tan Molon Labe hat. I'll probably be the only 5'6" guy with a beard and glasses wearing such a hat.

December 16, 2003, 10:52 PM
Thx Soda . that helps!! I'll mapQuest on that which'll help a lot.

Now - just weather and knowing who'll be the ''Sunday bunch''. After which .. deciding what absurd item of dress to don in order to not only look an idiot ... but be recognizable to any other THR's!:D

December 17, 2003, 02:22 AM
I'm going on sunday morning by 10am. Will be wearing british camo fatigues and SAS sweatshirt. The other presents are bought. It's my turn now :D

December 17, 2003, 05:09 AM
This just in: i might do sunday if the GF wants me on saturday :D

December 18, 2003, 04:17 PM
Weather lookin half way OK for Sunday .... so more than likely now I will try and get along, despite distance. Doubt I'll be there until well thru morning tho.

But - and here's the prob' ...... HOW am I gonna stand a snowflake's chance in hell of spotting any of you guys??

So - first off .. who might be there Sunday?? Second ... any way we can manage to hook up and I/D each other.?? I'll be wearing one of those blue NRA caps ... ''The 2nd Ammendment - America's Homeland Security'' ....... and a longish thick open shirt, (over a T-shirt) - sorta brownish checked - and jeans of course!

I am 6'0" .. 205, pretty white beard (no - not pretty :p ) ... VERY white. Oh and glasses. Pretty much std eccentric ole phart really! What about a sticky label on shirt .. with handle written on it? Any good? maybe you other guys could do same .. whatdya suggest?

I asked before i think but ... I presume no carry into show? How do they do that .... check guns on way in etc? Let me know someone if ya will.

December 18, 2003, 06:38 PM
I'm going on Sunday.

I believe the times are :9am-3pm

I'll probable be getting there around 10am.

I look like Timothy McVeigh.

Look for me.;)

I'll meet at the door *inside* at 10am-10:15am for anyone that wants to meet up.

P95- if you want me to give you my cell phone number I'll give it to you. Since you're travelling a good distance I'll meet up with you if you're late.

December 18, 2003, 07:30 PM
The weather looks ok. If I feel good I`ll probably go on Sat. I`ll wear my Hazleton Corvette Club jacket.:D

Anybody interested in a Sig P245 NIB or a Star Firestar .45 w/box and papers? I`ll bring them if there`s any interest. I don`t feel like going through the shipping hassle. PM me.

December 19, 2003, 02:09 PM
I’ll be there bright and early on Saturday AM, but I’ll save a few of the good deals (?) for the rest of you.

I love the smell of gunshow hotdogs in the morning…

December 19, 2003, 02:20 PM
.... check guns on way in etc? "
Yeah, they have a check/clear area when you enter. No loaded sidearms in the show. Re-load on your way out. Standard stuff.

Also, expect some TRAFFIC nearby. The King of Prussia Mall (aka the Snootiest Mall in America, which is 3o seconds away) will be hopping on Saturday and Sunday AM.

Beware of sheeple in SMV's (Soccer Mom Vehicles).

December 19, 2003, 02:23 PM
I'll be wearing a brown fedora with red garland on it, in honor of the holidays, and the fine old germanic tribe's tradition of stringing the entrails of their enemies on trees.

Feel free to say "Howdy!"

December 19, 2003, 02:25 PM
I'm going to try to make it out on Sunday. Blue sweatshirt with WCEC in huge letters on the back.

All week it was looking like Saturday for me, but last minute upheavals in the schedule now make it Sunday morning. I'll be large, using a fore-arm type crutch...or maybe two of them considering the time I'll be on my feets, and wearing the Molon Labe cap. Oh....and carrying trade goods.

Looking forward to seeing Timmy.....err, Sodapop again. I guess you could have hung onto that bunnybag another few weeks.....

December 20, 2003, 10:33 AM
Still hoping I can make it around 11.00 ...... ''2nd Amendment'' NRA cap. I may put a sticky label on shirt so ... keep a lookout eh.

December 20, 2003, 01:02 PM
like my last post. I'll try to catch up with you guys in the first Enclosed area. Anybody know if it is upstairs or down?? There is a computer show there too this weekend. Both will be packed I guess. Any intel from those that went today??

December 20, 2003, 07:50 PM

It's Jamie :D

Anybody know if it is upstairs or down??

Its almost always upstairs.

I'll try and find my Molon Labe hat and look for you guys.

I'll need a few extra hands to help me carry the ammo out.

Oh well, I'm going to have to miss this one after all. I had hoped to go today but got sucked into something else by SWMBO. Tomorrow I'm getting together with friends to go see The Return of the King.

We'll need a show report! :)

December 21, 2003, 01:41 AM
ok, well, i'm gonna be there sunday. I'll be wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

December 21, 2003, 05:35 AM
Still not entirely sure how I'll spot some of you guys but ... we'll see ...... and if any of you ''Sunday Bunch'' are checkin in here before going .... I'll remind you.

I'll have sorta brown check shirt, ''2nd Amendment'' cap ...... white beard and glasses!!:p And - I'll ensure I look idiot enough and put a sticky label on shirt too!:D

FYI ... damned cat didn't get put out last night and ... woke me 5.15! Yeah ..... 5.15!!! So - no more sleep here. Reckon I'll get on my way by or before 6.00 and that should mean I'll make it in good time.

Jamie - I'll still try you on cell 9.45 all being well.

December 21, 2003, 04:29 PM
What a show!

Best one in years.

Nice to meet P95Carry but there was far too many people in there to spot any Molon Labe hats.:)

December 21, 2003, 04:49 PM
Hey Soda!!! yep .. pretty good show .. and glad we could meet. I feel certain there were other THR people there .. but how to seek em out? Another matter entirely.

Quite amazed I did not come back with another gun ... wife will hardly believe that! Did tho get some stuff I was after ... coupla holsters, ammo (of course) ... some hard cast bullets for Mak and CZ52 .. a few mags .... oh and ''Santa'' still had some of those large orange stickers on a roll ..... glad I saw yours and went to look. Numerous odds and ends too, including more XTP's, some .454 brass and more primers! Oh my - have I got some loading to do!

Good session .. even tho 400 miles and 6 hrs of driving! Fine weather was a real bonus.:)

December 21, 2003, 07:43 PM
I spotted a Molon Labe hat... It was my pleasure to meet Pappy John at the show. I'm looking forward to meeting more of you at future shows!

December 21, 2003, 08:02 PM
I don't know what time you were there Wesley .. and sorry we couldn't hook up. It does tho need quite some organizing to achieve ... plus regular use of cell phone!!:D

Hope you enjoyed it.

December 21, 2003, 09:35 PM
I've met PappyJohn, and was looking for him, but couldn't see more than an aisle away.
Oh my - have I got some loading to do!

December 22, 2003, 08:23 AM
In all, it was a good show…but man, is it crowded in that place. Easily the most crowded show in memory.

There were some pretty decent deals there, but I’m looking forward to the next Harrisburg show…where you can breathe.

(I’m no fire marshal, but I’d be interested to see the max. capacity of that room vs. how many of us were in there.)

Pappy John
December 22, 2003, 01:33 PM
Yeah, those aisles were pretty tight. Now I know what a sardine feels like.
I got no takers for the gun I brought to sell. Only dealers wanting to trade, but I needed cash to buy reloading components so no happiness there.
I saw some nice Model 10's going for under $250 and a 3" Model 24 with some mottled bluing on the cylinder, but tight. And what's the deal on those FEG hi-powers I kept coming across? Real cheap. Are they a bad copy?

December 22, 2003, 01:40 PM
Pappy ..... I didn't notice the FEG's .. but mind you - despite ''casting an eye'' over most guns .. I tried not to linger too long .... in case of temptation!! Did find a lot of what I thought was VERY over-priced stuff tho! The guy not too far from where you come in ... with a lot of old H&R type stuff ... seemed to be asking a hell of a lot for what we mostly might call wall-hangers ... and many of those were pretty tatty!

Most AR stuff was, predictably -- ''well up there'' too!

Thing with FEG's is .. they are a pretty inexpensive gun to start with . (good val IMO) .... but what were the prices?? I'd expect to see price tags around $250 perhaps . damned if I remember how much mine was now without checking paperwork.

Sorry you didn't sell your gun. What was it?? I tended to look at guys with stuff for sale ... I saw a Hi-Point carbine with a ''for sale'' flag in the muzzle a few times. Like as not ... I walked right by you .. I did have a small sticky label on my shirt saying who I was - just in case!

December 22, 2003, 04:46 PM
The show decided to add an extra isle this year which shrunk the breathing room to the uncomfortable level. I didn't bother picking up some bullets because it would have required me to fight my way to the other side of the convention center.

There was a lot there, but nothing quite like I was looking for.

Pappy John
December 22, 2003, 06:14 PM
Chris, yeah the FEG's I saw were $229 to $249....sorely tempted. I also noticed some tables with rediculous high and dirt low on the same table. Or maybe I just didn't quite know what I was looking at....rare varieties of what I thought of as common stuff accounting for the highs?.

I was trying to sell a Ruger MkII Govt. Target pistol with a dot scope mounted. Been trying to sell it local for a month and after taking it to the show with no results I finally did what I should have done right off the bat. I put it in our classifieds here late yesterday afternoon. Its sold already to a gentleman in VA.
