Store clerk opens fire on would-be robber

By ABC13 Eyewitness News

(12/25/02) — A would-be robber is now in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital after his victim fought back.
Police say the suspect pulled a gun on a convenience store owner in southwest Houston on Synott near High Stars Tuesday night.

The clerk had a gun in his pocket and he shot first, hitting the suspect twice in the chest. Doctors expect the suspect to survive.

Officers caught a second man a short distance from the scene. They say he was the getaway driver, but he took off on foot when he heard gunfire.

Excellent!

Chalk up another 2 BGs for armed storekeepers -- 1 hit and 1 caught!

Nice. Reminds me of an article in USN&WR last week on the new police chief for LAPD. He was hired from NYPD because of LA's soaring murder rate. What was great about the article was that they listed the number of murders last year in the nation's four largest cities. The numbers were like 800, 700, 600, for NYC, LA, and Chicago. Then came Houston at around 200. I wonder why?

"...opens fire..."?

Naw, the clerk assessed the situation and responded in a measured manner with the minimum number of rounds needed to secure incapacitation of the robber without exposing other customers or bystanders to undue risk and without sacrificing expensive defensive ammo on a two-bit person.

Another of Shillary Snopes Clinton's esteemed supporters becomes a victim of vigilante justice and the gun culture. </sarcasm>

Ah, prompt customer service.

They got what they were asking for and didn't have to wait around to get it! :)

Does the title "Store clerk opens fire on would-be robber" seem to have a negative feel. When I first read this it sounded like he just opened fire on someone who looked funny. If the BG pulled a gun on him I don't see how he can be called anything but a "robber".

Surely you did not expect the news media to put a positive spin on the incident. I like to frequent stores in which the store clerk can provide this type of customer service.

I do choose to be armed myself, but it is always nice to know that others are armed also.
