Hey guys. I recently have moved here and I'm struggling to find places to shoot my pistol. I live in Orange county (thankfully not Durham) and I have a new pistol that I haven't shot since I moved down here. I was more so aiming towards possible shooting spots on state/public land instead of indoor ranges. I like the outside and not having to pay for range time when there's a nice dirt hill to shoot at. So do any of you guys have any secret spots that are good for shooting?

For reference, Orange county is near the top center of the state by Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill.

Check out the Carolina shooter forum. Plenty of NC based guys there that can give you good guidance. I am in Gaston county so I am afraid I can be of little help myself.

Look up Durham Pistol and Rifle Club. It is a private club in Alamance county. The cost isn't too high once you gt past the initiation fee and "capital investment." I think dues are only about $140 a year.

Unfortunately all of, or most of, the good spots have become parks, or housing developements.

Durham wildlife club has an IDPA match every Tuesday night. Arrive early, as they limit the match to 40 shooters.

A club membership (I am not a member) is pro-rated, so joining this time of year it should be pretty inexpensive.
