I know the info is out there somewhere, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. So here goes... Does anyone know what pistols Clint is packing in "The Outlaw Josey Wales"?

Colt Dragoons. Used to know which issue, I seem to dimly recall them being the Second Model.

After that movie came out, I purchased a 2nd Model Dragoon replica and an El Paso Slim Jim holster. Let me tell ya', that is a BIG chunk o' gun!

Are you sure? In this picture: (which isn't showing up so I killed the link)

they look a lot more like the 1860 Army or the 1861 Navy

The picture doesn't come up for me, but he does carry more than a few Colts in the course of the movie, some at the same time. I know that in the final gunfight scene he has a total of 4 revolvers on his person, one of which is almost surely an 1860 Army.

The primary ones used were the Dragoons however. Pretty sure.

Thank you! Looks like an 1860 Army to me!

Can you find other pics from the movie as well? I was in my mid twenties when it came out, and am now in my late forties, so I could be mistaken of course.:(

I did, however, watch it a bunch of times when it was released. :p

He carried four to six at most times. The two holstered ourtside were Colt Walkers. He had two in shoulder holsters under his coat and at least one other IIRC 1860 Army stuck in his belt.

I was also going to say that I thought they were Walker Colts. I knew he also carried a smaller handgun concealed.

The Dragoons had loading lever latches, IIRC. Josey Wales' holster pistols had no loading lever latches so they were Whitneyville Walker Colts, imho.

What was the one that he first picked out of the ashes of his burned down house?

OK folks, here's what I'm gonna do. I just got back from SunCoast where I purchased a shiney new 25th anniversary edition of "The Outlaw Josey Wales". I'm going to go through the film and catalog each pistol, by order of appearance. Heck, maybe I'll even change my handle from KMKeller to "Josey Wales"...:D

That'll be good. "We got us the KMKeller" doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well.;)

He used a variety of pistols through the movie. The biggest ones were 1847 Colt Walkers, and he had at least one 1860 Army as a backup piece. He also carried a shortened pistol (I'm not sure which model) in a shoulder holster.

Here's a black-and-white still form the film, showing the Walkers.

Ed - Kinda lacks that OOMPH doesn't it? Although they called me Killer Keller back when I played football.

All - This is the talley so far:
Side Holsters - Matching Colt Walkers
Cross Draw - Colt 1860 Army
Vest Pocket holster (Modified shoulder) - 1849 Colt Pocket

The only one I'm not sure on is the pocket gun, and I'll need to take a closer look at the trigger guard and whether the barrel is round or hexagonal, but initial impresison is the 1849 Colt Pocket.
