A few weeks ago I was watching a show, I believe it was on the Versus channel, about hunting hogs with a pellet rifle. They mentioned the brand and model of rifle they were using which is where the interest lies. After the show I went to the web site of the manufacture and found the model. The interesting thing about this model is that it had a muzzell velocity of over 2100 fps. Today I am trying to find that brand and model for a friend who is into pellet rifles. Did anyone besides me watch that same show and remember the details about the rifle?

hrmm.....well i have NEVER heard of an air gun that shot over 1200FPS.....

it sounds odd.....because the only reason to need such high velocity is if you are using a small caliber pellet.....and that such a high velocity....smaller pellets loose accuracy....

my guess would be, if they were using it to hunt anything other than small game....they were probably using a 9mm or .45 caliber air rifle.....

something like these would be appropriate:

I found the Gamo Hunter Supreme .177 and it is rated at 1600 fps but the one I saw and looked up on the web was rated, I believe, 2100 fps. I just can't remember the brand.

It takes 58# to cock a Gamo that shoots 1600fps. Mine takes 30# an its 1200fps, that's enough. I looked on the net and can't find one that's 2100fps that up there with the 17 HMR isn't it.

Somewhere there is a video of them shooting a hog with the Gamo 1600fps rifle, I haven't seen it I did read about it.

I have several high powder air rifles, including the Gamo HE that does 1600fps. It is impressive to most people what it will do. I built a pre-charged pneumatic 9MM air rifle a few years ago that will shoot a 115gr RNTMJ Speer handgun bullet at around 1100fps, or about 200fps faster than a 9MM handgun shoots the same bullet. It is not legal to hunt deer with an air rifle where I live, but I've killed several feral hogs with it to around 30 yards with bullets placed in the ear canal. It would certainly take a deer out to 40 yards or so. The 9MM PCP is stupid loud though. I wear earplugs under muffs with it. After the third shot ice starts forming on the barrel, which is cool. :what:

I killed my neighbors rotweiler with a gammo hunter pellet rifle. he kep getting into my chicken coup and I decided to thump him and scare the crap out of him. The 37 yard shtot entered behind the ear and folded him like a dove. Not my intention but that was the result. Gained a new respect for my little pellet gun after that. I even paid for a new dog out of feeling terrible over the whole thing.

You were kind to buy them a dog. I would be crushed to lose my own, but he sure wouldn't be in your chicken coup!

remember velocity is only part of the equation! a light pellet (say 8 grains) going 2100 fps has only 78 foot pounds of energy.

here is a link to the easy calculator (http://pyramydair.com/site/articles/formulas/)

a 36 grain .22 LR going 1400 fps has twice as much foot pounds of energy

I saw the show. It was a Gamo 25 cal air gun. Haven't been able to
find the details yet. Hog shot behind the ear. Neat!

Note: Found info on Gamo Spain site 6.35mm(25 cal) Guess not in US market yet.

I've been hunting with pellet guns for years, and i must say from my perspective what a pellet gun can do is very limited. yes, they have their place for hunting but it is not for anything larger than a rabbit.
however, there are large bore air guns that shoot 150+ grain bullets at upwards of 1200 feet per second. now, by firearm standards, thats not a lot. but its enough for many animals.
also, the gamo pellet gun hunting video is VERY controversial in the pellet gun world because the gun actually shoots a 5.1 grain projectile at around 1400 fps consistantly.
with pellet guns, the lighter the pellet, the less accurate (due to the pellets shape as it reaches the sound barrier, disturbances cause a wobbling of the entire thing)

The precharged pneumatics are the really powerful ones. They are pressurized up to 3000 psi either through a special hand pump, which takes about 400 pumps from zero psi, or with a scuba tank. The calibers go from .177, 20, 22, 25, 9mm, 45 and 50, and there are some custom jobs floating around. Career, Shin Sung, Sumatra, Walther and several other manufacturers are out there, along with Quackenbush.

In the UK and in Korea, these are the hunting guns because firearms are difficult to get and very expensive.

There are pictures online of wild hogs, deer and even bison that have been taken with these guns.
