After the great response to the slingshot crossbows presented here, many have asked if it can be converted for shooting arrows. Of course it can! This video presents a homemade, Thera Band powered crossbow that fires full size arrows (not the short crossbow bolts") at 213 fps (65m/s).

The mechanism is very simple, yet effective. The weapon has a built in arrow rest that fixes the arrow in loaded condition.

The result is a long, but very narrow crossbow. It is accurate and powerful.

Also, at the end of the video you can learn how to participate in a drawing. The price: A customized "Cougar Limited Edition" slingshot, with hand crafted Thuja wood scales. If you want to participate, you have to be a member of http://www.slingshotforum.com, and introduce yourself in the "Welcome Forum". The membership is free.

Deadline is November 15, 2010.

There is a 2D version and a 3D version of the video, as the production is shot with the new Panasonic HDC-SDT750 3D camera. The 3D version is viewable as well, the link will be published at a later time.

Here is the 2D video:

The 3D version is viewable as well, here:

To enjoy the video in 3D, you need to have cardboard paper glasses or use the "crossed eyes" method. Adjust the 3D playback method in the youtube player under "3D".

If you own a 3D TV, download the side-by-side video to a USB thumb drive or SD card, then plug it into your TV and you will have a blast.

Now that...is just weird. (Loved the slingbow, though.) What advantages do you see using an arrow instead of a bolt? Greater retained energy?

The big advantage is that I can make this crossbow at home, fom cheap wood that I can find anywhere, on a Saturday afternoon.

Also, I reacted to my audience. For some reason people are fascinated by arrows. So they asked me to adapt my xbows for arrows. I delivered.

The Slingshot Channel is supposed to entertain its audience. Did I not entertain you? :-)

Of course you did. :)

Do you have prices for your stuff posted somewhere?

Nice!
I find all this stuff interesting (especially with arrows).

right? I think that slingbow is just about my favorite non-firearm weapon I've seen here...

When I have my metal gear back (in about six weeks), I will make a variation of the slingbow from metal.

Like this:

Much less bulk, should look good in stainless.

I'm now thinking along the lines of JShirley. If you are willing, what would the cost of such a metal slingbow be, approximately? I've currently no way of producing such an item in my home, yet would greatly enjoy one under the Christmas tree as well. ;)

This is a misunderstanding, I never sell any of my home made weapons. This is just a hobby.

Would you want me to make a How-to video for an enhanced wooden version of the slingbow?

Would be smaller, lighter and would have a home made arrow rest (very cheap materials and only basic tools).

In case I will do a metal version, it will be very easy for the guys working in the car body shop around your corner to weld it together for you, from scrap steel. Make sure to bring a sixpack of Bud with you when you ask them.

My bad. I saw your reply in the slingshot forum. Oh, well.

They're really cool. :)

Joerg, a wooden version might be something I could find the courage to tackle.

Thanks,

John
