Hey guys, New to this forum but have been getting info from here for a few months.
I have a question that i have searched and searched and searched again and am not finding alot of info on. I want to point out that i just got my first reloader so im very new to this.
Well i bought the cheaper 115g9mm rainier for my first loads and im putting about 4.2gn-4.5gn of bullseye behind them with a C.O.L of 1.100". I got this info out of my hornady 7th edition for FMJ-RN ENC. Now after reading others personal opinions they say to go by lead bullet data. So im not sure if i over powered these rounds but im sure i over seated them by about .030"-.040".
If you guys could give me opinions on this it would be very helpful.
Thanks,
WatsonGravy

Your 4.2gn-4.5gn Bullseye powder charge is fine. Whichever it is?
Hopefully this indicates you loaded test loads of each charge, and are not getting that much variation in the same loads.
I think there are probably better powder choices then Bullseye for the 9mm however.
I would think the 1.20" COL is too short though.
I'm loading Berry 115's at 1.40" or thereabouts for use in S&W, SIG, and XD's.
What you need to do is take the barrel out of your gun and use it as a OAL guage.
Seat just short enough that the cartridge will chamber freely without the bullet hitting the rifling.

My electronic scale is giving me between 4.2-4.5 im not sure if its the scale thats off or if the auto powder measure of the LNL is of. Should i be worried about over pressure of these loads?

1. Buy a kinetic puller. Midway has their Frankford Arsenal puller on sale for about $8
2. What is the minimum powder load listed in your manual?
If you're not loading your first 5-10 rounds to the minimum, you're overloading. As a first time reloader, you need to start low and work your way up. A minimum load might not cycle your action and cause FTE's (failure to eject). Then you gradually increase the powder volume until the gun cycles well, and does not show signs of over-pressure.
1.1" of cartridge length can work. I've personally found 1.135" to work well in my G19. Your gun may be different. You can establishes what feeds well by making a few dummy rounds. and cycling them through your mag/action.
Again for powder loads and plated bullets, it depends. What is the min and max range in your loading book? What are the measured velocities for those loads? For 115gr, I'm guessing you'll have a max speed of 1100 to 1150 fps. These speeds are typically okay for plated bullets. But, if your loads aren't minimum on your first outing, you're asking for trouble.
edit: Also, if memory serves, I think I didn't mess with bullseye because it was a faster powder than I really wanted to mess with. Especially if I were to get relatively wide powder-dump variations like 0.3 gr.

I load the Ranier 115 Gr bullet so its O.A.L. falls between 1.130 and 1.135. Works for me.
