Yeah, Remington is pretty much burying their head in the sand and has had it their for the last oh..... 40+ years or so.

I can't believe this hasn't been fixed. I have a 1960s vintage 40x that has a safety problem. Put on safe, pull trigger, release safety and it would fire.

I called Remington and they said 8-12 weeks to repair. I said no thanks and put a Jewell in it. The problem was gone.

AFAIK, this is only a problem with factory triggers. Anyone have a Timney or other aftermarket that fixed the problem?

I'm a little puzzled about how "still" applies in 2010 when the quoted news story is almost 10 years old? They may or may not be in denial, but this doesn't prove the point one way or the other without some more recent data.

The reason it hasn't been fixed is, nobody at remington knows how to fix it without screwing up the M700's sweet trigger pull. I believe that the problem was "addressed" by ruining that trigger, but I haven't bothered with any bolt actions in decades, so dunno for sure.

I guess Shilen figured it out. Maybe Jewell, Timeney...best trigger I owned was a Shilen for $80.

Not true at all...Remington stands behind their findings that they cannot reproduce the alleged 'failure', of the triggers in question.

And Remington can, or could, design a replacement trigger that would be every bit as 'sweet' as the triggers currently in play , why don't they...? They say that the failed triggers they have gotten back from customers, and they have inspected at the factory, either were incorrectly adjusted by the users of the rifles, or they(Remington) could not duplicate the failure on that particular trigger.

Remington is offering to 'insect' and 'adjust' your trigger(to factory specifications) at no cost, other than the shipping fee, if the owner of the rifle will send their rifle to the Remington factory, or to a 'Remington authorized' repair facility.

For fun, we have been asking some of our customers, "what exactly do you expect Remington to do for you" (concerning the questionable safety of the customers trigger), answers stem from replacement of the trigger with an aftermarket trigger of the customers choice, to Remington 'giving' the customer an entirely 'new' rifle, at no cost to the customer, of course! What are your requirements?

The X-mark pro trigger doesn't have this issue from what I understand, correct?

Am I the only one puzzeled as to why a person would point a rifle at someone with a round in the chamber?

Had the people with problems followed basic safety rules people would not be shot. Just like breaks can fail in a car, or a parachut can fail to open on a dragster, a gun safety can fail and anyone who picks up a guns should know that. I make sure I don't even point unloaded guns at people, much less one with a round in the chamber.

I offer my sincere condolences to the familys who were hurt and if Remington knows there is an issue they should address it, but lets also make sure people who handle firearms recieve proper training and never point one at another person.

I last comment, did anyone inspect the guns to see if they have been tampered with? Maybe an incompetent smith fooled with the guns and made them unsafe. I've seen that happen with an AR.

That would mean that, the skeptical customers would have put their money where their mouth is. It would also help to solve the alleged problem, if of course, this issue is even a legitimate one.

Some of the problem is that the original Remington triggers are adjustable, and many people attempt to self adjust the different aspects of pull and creep without proper knowledge. If you add that to unsafe gun handling, then bad things can happen.
You can't fix stupid.

I've handled a lot of Remington bolt rifles in my day, and I have never seen one with an unsafe trigger/safety.
I'm not saying that it isn't possible however. You just need to have all the facts in each case.
