Hi all,
I am very new to thr but I know this is where my boyfriend goes if he has a gun related question. I am planning on purchasing a IWB mag carrier for his birthday to go along with the XD .40 subcompact firearm I bought him for Christmas last year. The site I am ordering it off of is asking for mag carrier caliber options. This is probably a very simple question but I can't seem to find the answer online. Is the XD .40 subcompact mag a single stack or double and is a crossbreed mag carrier the way to go?

Yes the XD .40 subcompact uses a doublestack mag and yes the Cross Breed setup would be the way to go. Welcome to the group, nice to have you join us.
Good luck

Yes doublestack

Crossbreed makes great stuff, I had their old design single mag carrier and ended up finding something better for a double since CB wouldn't slap two of their mag carrier bodies on a SuperTuck or MiniTuck. Now I'll probably end up ordering a CB model for comparison and other mag sizes (mine is a single stack and fits .45 to 9mm)

The other option for a really good IWB mag carrier is Tucker Gunleather

I have that double and it is as comfortable as my SuperTuck, I would have gone with CrossBreed if they were making a double back when I ordered.

Other than that, there aren't many IWB mag carriers that are of similar design, or at least there weren't last year when I was ordering.

If you get your BF the double, the second slot can hold a light, pocketknife, or whatever ... you don't have to go full tactical ninja with two mags all the time, but it looks like the double isn't much bigger than the single. Two makes for a more spread-out lump on your hip as well, which was one of the reasons I went from the CB single (different design, nowhere near as good as the one they have up right now) to the Tucker double-slot.

As stated above, the XD subcompact your boyfriend has is a doublestack. The one thing I would ask is does he currently carry the pistol IWB or OWB? I ask because a lot of people find carrying both the firearm and a mag carrier IWB a little too much. I know I do. I personally prefer to carry the magazine OWB and I carry the same .40 XDsc as your boyfriend.

If you know he wants to carry a mag that way, I certainly don't see anything wrong with the Crossbreed, but if he hasn't given you any clues, it might be best to do some more investigation... Or heck, if ya bought him a pistol last year, buy him a couple of different mag holders; you set the bar pretty high anyway :)

Hey guys,
A big thanks to all you guys! He loves his CB holster. I ended up with just the single mag carrier because he also has an IWB CB for his pistol and he only has so much pants space. :) Now I just have to worry about what I`m going to get him this year for Christmas :o ! Thanks!!!
