Savage MkII shearing tips off of .17hm2 / general feeding problems.

I recently bought a Savage MkII from one of the members here, and after finally getting all the crud cleaned out and getting it oiled to a point where I could actually cycle the bolt, I noticed that after cycling a magazine through about half a millimeter of the polymer tip would be ripped off of some of the rounds and others had dents on the shoulder. Carefully watching the action as I cycle the bolt, I see that the round gets picked up out of the magazine just fine, but gets hung up actually entering the chamber, its almost like the chamber is just a little to small for the cartridge to easily enter unless perfectly positioned. Any ideas on how to fix this? Having a not-so-pointy .17hm2 round probably isn't that great for accuracy.
