View Full Version : How to answer Tuckable IWB ?

Curious as to how you would answer someone asking what the clip/loop/j-hook is on your belt when using a 'Tuckable' style IWB holster.
(ie: shirt obviously tucked in over gun w/o any other cover garment)
Biggest concern would be with casual aquaintances that know me somewhat, but not enough that I'm comfortable divulging that I'm carrying.
If it is someone you are familiar with, it's kinda hard/rude to respond w/ "none of your business". Can't BS and tell them it's part of a Diabetes Insulin Pump.
I'd probably just blow off the question and try to move on.
Anyone experienced this problem or given it any thought?

No one has every asked me what the clip is. My mother hasn't noticed, LEOs on the street in Philly haven't noticed, the fellow shooter in my office hasn't noticed.
On me it's at 3:30-4:00 a bit behind where my arm hangs down. I always wear regular button-down shirts, although I wear the ones that are somewhat loose around the waist so the butt of the gun (SW3913TSW) is in the poofy part and I keep an even "poof" on both sides. (I can't think of a better descriptive term for it :) )
Anyway, the 3913 is thin and pretty much disappears on my waist. I have a tuckable on order for my K-frame revo, that will be my next concealment challenge.

Mobile insulin pump? never thought of that one,I might use that.
"Electro-muscular stimulation device for my bad back."
"It's a nunyer"
I wouldn't allow the c-clips to be that visable.A slight overlay of the tucked in shirt should conceal them quite well.

the only holster lik that , I have is a small one for my beretta tomcat. It is a galco 2nd ammendment . The hook is pretty small. I use to wear it in the small of the back area. ( I have an ankle holster for it now). I was visiting the folks for the summer, and my dad noticed the hook . He knows that i carry, so I suspect when he looks at me he's trying to see what or if I'm carring. He asked me what was on my belt . Then he quickly realized what it might be then asked if that was something that he shouldn't see. I told him yep. then I showed him the gun. He thought it was neet, pop up barrel and all.
With people you know, and they know you, may carry . if your're comfortable knowing that they know, let them in on it. My neighbors have seen me carry, clean my guns etc. They feel safe and comfortable nowing this.
For "casual folks" and folks on the street, if they ask I tell them it's a part of a back brace. Or, if it's on the hip it's a colostaomy bag holder :D

Do the tuckables work on guns like a Glock 27. It seems like a pretty big bulge to me?

Maybe "an emergency key to my house in case I lock myself out"? Trying to think of something the aquaintance won't also ask to see.

last month. I was doing a case in the hospital, and had left the pistol locked in the car. The holster was still on, tucked over, and the nurse asked what those things were on my belt.
I said "Those are clips for when I attach a holster to the belt."
No holster being visible, she just said "Oh, I see." No further discussion, and no lie necessary.

You could always just clip a suitable-sized keyring onto it!

I would probably ignore their question, look them in the eye, and change the subject - as if were grounds they shouldn't tread on -- or say "nothing" and go on with the rest of my conversation...
"pocket knife" is usually a viable option that's not too offensive, but still has the option to be a weapon if used correctly/incorrectly. I cna't use this one because everybody I know knows I have a knife clipped to my pants pocket.
I've used this one before too, "do you know what a CWP or an IWB is?"
"uh, no"
"then don't ask" and smile
If it really is none of their business that you're carrying, I'm sure you can think of a polite way to let them know it's none of their business.
One thing I figured out after I moved out of my parents house a while back is that you can say anything to anyone you want as long as you can say it in a way they want to hear it.
Just never let them see the clip in the first place - or try a pager pal www.pagerpal.com -- you can stick a normal cell phone clippy-do on it as well, you don't have to use their cheap non-working pager thingo.

How about:
"It's a long story. Don't ask."
"I could tell you, but it would spoil your appetite for weeks to come."
"Oh, that? The aliens put it there."
"It's been there since my last colon checkup. I've been meaning to have the doctor remove it but you know, I just haven't had the time."

This is the main reason I don't own a tuckable and put up with that infernal belly band, or wear sweaters or other non tuckable shirts so I can use my regular IWB holsters.
Although I wonder about the Secret System 2 holster by Fist http://www.fistholsters.com/holsters/holster/22.htm

Comp Tac (www.comp-tac.com/) has stealthy velcro clips also. These go between the lip of the pants and the belt with the clips attaching to the back of the belt with velcro (sewn or glued to the belt).
I bought a set with my holster but haven't used them yet.
