Question about my new shotgun

I bought a new Browning Citori XS sporting O/U in 12 gauge today. I pulled it out of the box, wiped it down, put it together, dropped a couple of snap caps in and pulled the trigger. The gun will fire the first barrel selected either under or over just fine but will not fire the second barrel unless I cycle the safety on and off. Any Ideas on this. I have not fired a live round out of it yet. I have never seen this in any other O/U.

inertia trigger. the recoil action of the first shot resets the trigger for the second barrel. Try it again with your snap caps. dryfire first barrel, then bump the butt of the gun on the floor. not real hard, just a thump like enough to crack a walnut, then should dryfire second barrel.

I'm not really familiar with the Citori, but I believe it, like many doubles, has an inertia reset or block for the second shot. In other words, the recoil of the first shell is required to set or unblock the second trigger/barrel. Dry firing obviously will not make it work. Try some live shells and have fun.

I have the exact same shotgun, and that is how mine operates. It was also my first shotgun/longarm. Hope you enjoy it:)

Thanks John,

I hope it will be all I expect, I am going to try it out today. I have owned many pump and semi-auto shotguns over the years and my only O/U is a Huglu mod103CE that has served me well. The Citori is a step up for me and the inertia fireing system is something new.

My best friend has that exact o/u and shoots trap with it. He in a club and shoots competition. During the past two years, he put over 8000 shells through it and it's still "just getting broken in" by his account.

You'll enjoy that shotgun for many years to come!
