Ruger 10/22 question

A friend of mine found an older 10/22 that his belonged to is brother tanking of selling it for 140.00. I checked serial # from Rugers web site and rifle was manufactured in 1985.is there a way I can check if barrel is shot out?

I'd only concern myself with it if I thought that it might have 250-500,000 rounds through it. Which is unlikely.

I'd be much more concerned with the barrel being cleaned to death than to actually being shot out.

Will he let you shoot it (with a variety of ammo, some of it actually being good stuff) before you buy it?

for $140 who cares if the barrel is shot out? there is nothing special about the barrel, every single blued 10/22 barrel made is the same. Besides, if it is shot out, and it's not, that would be a perfect reason to buy a good barrel. I got a pile of factory barrels that are probably going to the scrap yard, and other than the exterior are perfectly fine.

New take off barrels are easy to find and cheap. $140 is a pretty good price for a functioning 10/22.

In other words buy it! I wouldnt be worried about the barrel being shot out on a 10/22
