I will take the right to live and the right to safety over some redneck hic's "god given constitutional right" to bear arms.
What?? When did we get a Right to be safe? Where in the Constitution and BOR does it say that Safety is a God Given Right?
We have Rights to be free to speak, pursue happiness, be free of unreasonable searches, etc... but NOWHERE are we promised SAFETY!
Safety is for US to provide ourselves.
Heck... they probably think that welfare and medicare are Rights too!!

"Redneck hick". Lovely. Wonderful, erudite debate going on over there. What tolerant, charming folks.
Redneck, as these people use it, basically means "white n_____r". It's the only ethnic epithet acceptable to the hypocritical PC cowards who are dragging this country down the toilet.

Its good to get some different perspective on my RKBA passion. And awesome to see some folks there with GREAT answers.
The antis all seem young. When I was in College I was very left and liberal. I used to talk to my dad about "Do I really need to hunt? Do we really need firearms?" Ooh, that got him a bit excited...
Glad to say we still hunt and collect these interesting objects that go BANG...

I wonder if they would be for Light Saber registration.
What's interesting on that board, with the antis there, is the movies they love so much -- that they are willing to have pages and boards dedicated to them -- are pro-firearms movies. In the Star Wars movies everybody had a firearm with the possible exception of those Ewok guys; and even they were not without weapons.

But they're movies, not real life.
I used to be an anti, despite liking Starwars, Westerns, etc. (Or maybe, I liking Starwars, Westerns, etc, despite being an Anti).
I also read a lot of history, including history showing the need for the people to be armed in order to resist tyranny, and was still an Anti. "That was then, but this is now. We have a Democracy now, and everyone is nice, etc".
Although it was history in the end that made me change side.
Specifically, a book on Ukranian history, which I wanted to know more about because my Dad's gandparents came from there, to escape from persecution (they were Jews). Turns out, though, that that wasn't the first time that sort of thing had happened.
It had happened before.
And then it happened again.
And again.
And again.
...
And then it happened to my ancestors.
And then it happened again.
Then the Soviets invaded (the part of Ukraine that belonged to Poland at the time the Nazis and the Sovients shared Poland), and started persecuting and murduring and purging everyone.
Then the Nazis invaded, and tens, no hundreds of thousands of Jews were shipped of to death/concentration camps, and for some reason, despite everything that had happened over the previous centuries, they didn't seem to resist, but went willingly.
And I thought [/i]Why????[/i]. Why are these people not doing anything? Surely they should suspect something? Why are you just letting people march you out into the woods, make you dig mass graves, and then just line up to be shot? (Especially when you outnumber them 10 to 1 or 100 to 1 or more. If you all rushed them at once, they'd shoot some of you, and then have to change their magazines, and then you could overpower them).
And it was then that it dawned on me that people need to be armed (including with assault weapons), and ready to stand up for themselves, in case anything like this ever happens again.
And then I though: I've just gone against a belief [gun-control] that I've passionately supported for years. Perhaps I need to think this through more. After all, if guns are easily available, angry mobs will be more dangerous.
But then I thought: you don't need guns to drive people out of their homes, just knives and petrol-bombs and axes and base-ball bats and other things that are easily and legaly available, but aren't very good for home defence. And while a gun-totting mob is more dangerous, if the house is well armed, then they won't all survive, so they might think twice about attacking, or at least, there will be fewer of them when they move on to the next house. (And anyway, that all asumes the mob obeys the gun laws, or isn't armed by the government).
And then I thought about all the other arguments I'd used against the idea of letting the public have loads of arms, and they gradually all fell apart (especially when I realised that most came down to "prevent good use of guns, including self defence, in the hope that bad use will be stopped", and "anything is justifyable for the Pblic Good").
Add to that the fact that lots of my theories just collapsed in the face of statistics
("making handguns illegal won't stop all criminals getting them, but it will reduce the supply and so reduce the total gun crime". Except the UK tried this, and it didn't).
And so, basically, thats why I'm now "pro gun".
(Hmmm... that was a long post, and not my original intention)
Iapetus.
(BTW, that wasn't the end of the history of Ukranian oppression. After the Ukranians helped the Nazis massacar the Jews, the Nazis then massacared the Ukranians, and then the USSR invaded and did it all over again).

It is truly amazing. The "Star Wars" crowd does not even know the basis for the first movie. Does it seem very coincidental that the dark force have NAZI uniforms. And, as stated before, all persons are armed. And there is qute a bit of gun play. The "good guys" are fighting for freedom (duh).....with arms. Oh well, too much sofa and too much popcorn will rot the brain. :barf:

iapetus,
Congrats on your conversion. Its nice to know that there are still some people in this world who can stand up and say they were wrong. Many people are too proud to change thier views no matter what evidence they are shown.

But they're movies, not real life. You would be surprised at the number of fans (slang for "fanatic") who beileive that these are real situations or someday will be.

I read some of the SciFi boards and I feel that most of the posters are so far over on the Left that they make Communists seem positively reactionary. Finding anti-firearm sentiments is not surprising in the least.
