Opinions please, another Garand or an '03-A3?

OK, the Garand bug is biting again, I only have one that I got from the CMP last year. I keep thinking about either an '03-A3 from the CMP, or buying another M1 for one of my sons. The oldest is only 13, but one day he might appreciate it if I give it to him. Should I buy what I already have or go for the bolt action '03? Can't :banghead: make :banghead: my:banghead: mind :banghead: up :banghead: :banghead:

The Garands will be still available long after the 03-A3s have dried up.

I go through this about a hundred times a day ever since I got my first Garand from CMP earlier this year.....Garand, no '03A3......no Garand....'03A3......on and on and on and on and...............
I pick up my Garand and say, yeah......get another one. Then I flip through the CMP catalog and say....mmmm, those '03's look sweet!!!!!
No man should go through this agony!!!!:cuss:

What agony? My answer to these one or the other threads is always a resounding, BOTH!!! But the kid a Garand, yourself a 03 and then tell him he will appreciate college more when he finds a way to pay for it. :D

mmmmm.. College. I have a plan for that one. Either the USGI Montgomery plan, or prison industries! Him being 13, I sometimes think the later. :what:
But I'm still working on him. Can't wait to break out MY Christmas present of Medal of Honor and get him hooked on a Garand. He's kind of skinny and small for 13, and to be my son. You should have seen him shoot that big 'ol Garand ! :D He couldn't even get off a whole clip. That's why I decided to try the game.

There's no reason your son wouldn't be able to shoot the Garand. I had all kinds of small statured teen aged kids shooting 11 pound FN C1A1's regularly with no fuss. Do some pre-range training(IA drills, load and unload, sight picture, trigger control, etc) and he'll be fine. Just don't be PO'd if he shoots better than you. And, twenty years from now, he'll remember shooting with is da like nothing else.

Thanks everyone. You brought a moment of sanity to me to help me fight Garanditis. I'm filling out the CMP paperwork right now for the '03-A3.
I couldn't have done it without you all! :D

Don't forget the Garand too. I thought we decided on both.

Well, I'd have to say get the '03-A3, but then I think that perhaps a Garand is a little hefty in recoil and weight for a 13-year-old (speaking as one who can easily remember when he was thirteen, being not too far from then). That is, of course, assuming you would be buying the Springfield for yourself. If either would be for your son, then Garand by all means.

OK, I've had an idea this morning on the way to work.
I'm going to place the order for the '03 today. Then I'll start squirrling away money again for more Garands. Notice the S? Yep, considering I've got a Springfield Garand already, I now need a Winchester, a Harrington & Richardson, and an International Harvester. That way, I have one to leave to each of my children in my will. :D That'll teach my wife to have 4 kids :p
