I have a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, chambered in .280 remington. I"m trying to date the gun, but i can't figure out the Serial number. the serial is as follows.
G1968395. the scope on it is a Leupold Vari-x III and is dated 1988... i read somewhere that the winchester 70's were only chambered in featherweights and .280 for a few years. Does anyone have real information on this? Thanks.

I've never found an online source for Winchesters made after 1963. I have the same rifle with a green laminated stock, also in 280. The date of 1988 on the scope seems realistic. The pushfeed Featherweights were made from 1980 up until about 1994. That is as close as I can guess as to the date of manufacture.

This is also, what i have found. I can't seem to find any real accurate data on the push feed model 70's... its like they quit paying attention to what they were making.

Answered my own question. the Rifle was manufactured in 1989. I called Winchester and they answered my question. 1988 scope, and 1989 rifle... would it be safe to assume they were purchased together originally?
