I see that the prices are coming down on electronic ear muffs. Are you folks shooting with this style of ear protection? What say you?

One thing to look at with the lower priced electronic ears is the noise reduction rating. Most non-electronic ears have a NRR of about 27-28 with a couple of the better ones 31-33. Most of the lower priced electronic ears have NRR's of around 20-22. You actually get less noise reduction than with just standard ears. I have seen one of the lower priced units is now up 27 on the NRR.

This was a reason that when I decided to go with electronic ears I saved up and got the Pro-Ears. They have a NRR of 33 which is the highest rating at this point. Having used these I will not go back to standard ears anymore.
Or of course just shoot everything suppressed..:D

Agree with Woofers. Purchased a pair for class, just got another pair for coaching. Once you get used to them, they are way ahead of the other means of ear pro.

I tried the cheapo elec ones from Harbor Frieght and after going thru several defective pair I opted for the standard hi db rated ones from Academy...........no battery worries and no faulty circuits to plague me. I mostly shoot alone during the week and don't need to have converations while trying to concentrate. Shooting with others it is harder to hear them but rarely do I really need to make sense of the chatter anyway. Can still hear "cease fire" with regular muffs.

One of the best is Howard Leigth Sport, the U.S. Gov uses them, need I say more? Not a bad price either.

If shooting under a roof or inside its also best to double up with plugs , no matter what brand of muffs you use.

Those are the ones I got at Academy. About $21 if I recall correctly. Yes, I double up under our outdoor roofs!

I bought a set of Dillon's several years ago.
I like them a lot, but:

Wish they had a "behind-the-head" band like my old AO's so I could wear a hat in the summer.
And I wish they had a little taller headband.

The black plastic lining that sets on top of my head gets hot enough to raise blisters in hot summer sun, and there isn't enough space to put more padding or a folded bandanna in there to insulate the heat from burning your head.

Course, if I were not so chronically "hair challenged" it would probably not be an issue.

I just got a pair of these today from Amazon.com. Good price.

I'll use regular muffs and plugs at the range. I got the electronic muffs for hunting. In the even I get a shot, I want to protect myself while still being able to hear game moving.
