Has anyone ever heard of a 9mm Desert Eagle?

Kid I know at the local coffee shop claims that one of his fellow National Guard members has a full size Eagle in 9mm. Now, I've heard a LOT of silliness, but this has gotten me wondering: DID they make some form of conversion kit, maybe 357-9? Or is this yet another case of someone speaking out of the wrong orofice?

Prob not a full size--
Just another "Baby" eagle-- Common enough--

The Baby Eagle has been done in two sizes that I know of, so the bigger Baby Eagle could be called "full-size" as opposed to "compact" while still being half the size of the DE.

Hopefully just mis-communication somewhere.

IMO, I don't think the 9mmP can generate enough force to work the slide and unlock the bolt of a Desert Eagle reliably.

A simple solution would be to ask him to provide proof.

I'm with others, it's probably a Baby Eagle/Jericho.

Magnum Research sells both the Desert Eagle and Baby Eagle. The designs have nothing to do with each other, other than the shape of the slide. The Baby Eagle line is available in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP.

I like the ergonomics of the Baby Eagle, and think it looks kinda cool too, but has anyone else noticed how dang heavy the gun is?
What is it, like 38oz. or so?
I just remember picking it up at the shop and thinking 'whoa, chunky'.

they used to make a .38 special conversion kit for the .357 Model, similar to .22lr converstion kits available for some guns it converted it to blowback operation.

i suppose they could do the same with 9mm and for the same reasons.

but most likely he's refering to the IMI Jerichos, marketed in the US as the "baby eagle".

I've seen the Baby Eagle in 9mm, it's a pretty nice shooter. As far as a full sized Desert Eagle... :scrutiny: According to their site : http://www.magnumresearch.com, they call the standard pistol the "Baby" Desert Eagle and also make mention to a semi-compact pistol as well.

"Standard" would make it "full size"--

When is a baby not a baby?

When is a baby not a baby?

When it's a compact.

EJ, they've done (IIRC) a 4.9in barrel and a 3.7in barrel. One of those could be called baby-er than the other, if one were sloppy enough with his language.

MY first thought was the baby too, but he swore it was a "full Eagle". Typical...

...........after 18 years of shooting P7s I picked up a Baby Eagle Compact 9mm and shot better from the first mag, go figure. Must be something about 'fit' I guess.

FWIW- the Baby Eagle has a major difference from the Israli issue Jericho in the location of the saftey. (slide -vs- frame)
And the Deset Eagle has nothing to do with the IDF, being purely made from a private US design for the US Market.

...Though the first Desert Eagles were manufactured by IMI in Israel. They even had the IMI Logo on the grips, as do the Baby Eagles.

IMI, who make the Baby Eagle, still calls the Jericho the Jericho. It was my understanding that the slide safety Jericho (identical to and known as the Baby Eagle in the US) is the most common issued.

They have one in a shop with teh slide mounted safety. Same basic controls as a Beretta 92 (as opposed to the standard CZ style controls). Pretty nice, and not bad at $449. Trigger's better than a Ruger. (This shop does have elevated prices, too...it's Gander Mountain)

A shop around here sells the entire 'Baby Eagle' line for $299 poly and steel..........$279 at the gun shows. No Jerichos though

The compact 9 I picked up a few months back has bumped the P7 out of the collection.
