I'm looking at buying a Benelli SuperNova for myself for the upcoming gift-friendly holiday. In particular, I want the 18.5" tactical model with the ComforTech stock. I was wondering which recoil pad people would recommend? I've seen the Limbsaver pad suggested, and also see that Benelli has their own gel replacement pad.

Also, if you recommend the limbsaver, which one would I need to get for the SuperNova? I'm not really hardware savvy, so I'm not sure which fit I'd need.

Quite honestly, I've never felt the need for any kind of aftermarket recoil pad on my SuperNova. The ComforTech stock does a really great job on soaking up felt recoil, after all, that's what it's there for. If I had to pick any, I'd go with a Limbsaver slip on. When I was looking at Benelli's replacement recoil pads(to decrease length of pull), they were over $100 a piece.

Whats wrong with the ComforTech recoil pad that comes standard on the ComforTech stock?

It's already supposed to be as good as it gets.

The stock ComforTech recoil pad is made from a shock-absorbent gel. It is also shaped to supposedly better fit the shoulder and distribute recoil evenly.

I'd suggest you see if it is broke before you try to fix it!

I'd read that the stock stock was hard, but if it is actually the gel pad, I see what you mean.

stick with the original. I have put alot of rounds through mine both birdshot and buckshot and have not had any problem

IMO, don't try to fix what isn't broken. ;)

After getting the supernova, I can confirm that the stock recoil pad is actually the hard one that people have said, and not the gel one. The gel pad is an option you can buy, but it doesn't come standard on the gun.

Limbsaver recoil pad = $35
Benelli recoil pad = $100

I actually got a limbsaver, but I bought the wrong size (I got the one that said "nova", which was the medium, but I think I need the large - going to go down to the store and replace it today). On that note, should I take off the stock recoil pad first, or just slip on the Limbsaver over it?

I took off the original pad on my Nova then slid the limb saver on. Leave the original pad in place if you want a longer LOP

Yeah I held it, then thought "I could use a bit more I guess." So I put the limbsaver on without taking the original one off, and I held it up and thought "Oh yeah." So I'm happy now!

Wow, finally got a chance to test it out at the range. The felt recoil with 3.5" magnum shells on the recoil pad was a bit less than the felt recoil with 2 3/4" RR shells before I put it on. HUGE difference, and I love it.
