I have acquired three boxes of Hornandy 100 gr. short jacket bullets. Can
anyone give me some reloading data for a 308 Win. How does this round compare to the Speer Plinker which is also a short jacket bullet. I do have
about 2 pounds of IMR 4895 that i have just bought. Thank You

Those bullets were intended for .30 Carbine / 30-30 winchester velocity.

My old Hornady manuals didn't list any .308 or 30-06 loads for them.

However they do list them in .300 Savage.
Using 4895:
38.4 Start gives 2,600 FPS.
44.8 MAX gives 3,100 FPS.

Those loads would be safe in a .308 Win also.

I don't think they would stand any higher velocity then that anyway.

The other thing is, don't try loading them very light, as the half-jacket can come unstuck from the core and remain in the barrel resulting in a bulged barrel the next shot.
