OK guys, which CZ ?

I've got it narrowed down to a couple. As a rule of thumb I prefer all steel autos, but I've heard so much nice about the PCR that its making me lean that way over the all steel Compact. Quandry!! Will it really make that much of a difference in this choice? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I have both, a 75B and a PCR and I would not want to get rid of either and I like both equally.
Just get one of them and it won't be long before you buy the other one too!-LOL

I like my PCR. I think it depends if you want a decocker or not.

Just had to throw out my P-01. :)
The PCR is one of the best CCW pistols ever made, bar none. The BIG differences between it and the Compact is the PCR had alloy frame, low mount Novak style rear sight, loaded chamber indicator, and decocker. The Compact is steel framed with standard safety.
I did carry, and would carry, either of these guns without a qualm, but my hands down choice of the two would be the PCR.

I also have a 75B and PCR, as well as the .22LR Kadet Kit. The PCR is the most versatile CZ made. Great for range or carry.

The Kadet Kit works great on both my 75B and PCR.

I have a compact due in today. I picked the all steel since it's for my daughter and the recoil is much more pleasant than the alloy gun. She also has small hands so the option to carry condition one is a big plus.

Personally, there isn't a version of the 75 I don't like so it really depends on what you want. As noted, decocker and weight are the big deciders. If this is a carry gun, I'd probably opt for the alloy. I picked the CZ specifically for the option to carry cocked and locked, so a decocker is useless to me.

I don't see any utility to a rail on a civilian CCW pistol. For a nightstand gun, a rail with a light makes good sense since you want to be sure of your target in your own house (particularly since you may have family wandering around).

I have owned a CZ83 for a little over 2 years. Love the gun. Easy to carry and conceal, high capacity, very accurate and has functioned flawlessly with everything I have put through it (several brands of HP and FMJ).

I have a PCR and a P01 and love them both. The PCR is a great CCW gun and the P01 is the "bedside" model.:rolleyes:

My own preference is the CZ75-SA, which operates the same as a 1911. It's great for people with smaller hands like me. I ordered mine from the Ghost Products folks over on the CZ Forum, and included options like an aluminum trigger, a trigger job, 3-dot sights, and special wood grips. Wonderful gun, and nice folks to deal with.

Don, do you have the straight trigger, or the older curved SA trigger. Did they take off the disconnector and is it the factory hammer?

I've been debating doing a SAO conversion on my 75b since I only carry cocked and locked and like the fact the flat CZ trigger has both takeup and over-travel. I can't really afford a full custom SAO conversion right now, so will do the work myself. Other wise I'd sent it off to Angus and have him do his magic.

Slicking up the action is fairly straightforward, and I think I can manage a simple trigger swap. But I'm curious how much a difference SAO only made over just cocked and locked on a SA/DA gun.

Also, do you have the standard safety?

Guntech, I have a 75sa with the straight trigger. Even though the trigger has adjustments for takeup overtravel, with the firing pin safety in the gun I couldn't adjust out the takeup. With the firing pin safety in the gun the trigger needs to come forward more for that safety to reset. I took out the firing pin safety and I was able to adjust out all of the takeup because now only the sear needs to reset. Now if you just want a clean trigger install the competition hammer. It will give you a lighter smooth pull. If you install this hammer you will need to carefully remove some material off the sear leg for the safety to work. Mark

Though I think Walkalong is a little of his rocker (just kidding) I have to agree with him on this one. The 97B is an awesome platform.

Thanks railroader. I believe that czcustom has a block so you can take out the FP block. Of course I'm always leery about removing a safety device on a carry gun for legal reasons, although I doubt it would be an issue for a jury here in Montana.

I can't decide whether to just drop in the SA trigger, or go for a full blown conversion with the trigger, comp SA hammer, comp safety, no FP safety and longer FP.

I do most of my gun work myself, but only have a little experience with the CZ. Mostly I work on S&W revolvers and 1911s. Other than the sear/safety is there much to fitting the SA comp hammer?

Guntech if you remove the firing pin safety, cz custom does sell a spacer replace the lever you will remove. As for the conversion I had trouble getting the new trigger in with the spring. It just fits, barely. If you do this order their special trigger pin. On the hammer I got the pin out on the old hammer then couldn't get it to go in the new hammer. I wound up sending the new hammer and strut to cz custom. They installed the pin and polished the strut. I put in a 15lb. mainspring and installed tactical sights. Now the gun is wonderful. I adjusted the takeup so it's almost identical to my kimber. The trigger breaks super clean like a 1911 at about 3 lbs. With good sights and a great trigger this gun shoots fast. Mark

Well, I wish I had an all steel compact so I could say I own both. I do ahve a PCR and I like it ok. Mine has laser grips and also a Cross Breed Super Tuck to tote the thing in. I doubt you could go wrong with a PCR and a Kadet kit for .22s.

I did see a matte chrome compact fs at CZ forum the other day.

Everybody should have at least one 75-the "classic" CZ (though mine is actually the 85; I got it instead of the 75 because, for whatever reason, at the time of purchase my shop was selling them considerably cheaper than they were the 75).

Just got my CZ-75 compact from board member Mustang123. Nice gun. I almost like it better than my 75b, but my daughter already has laid claim to it.

The CZ love is coming back hard, and now I am thinking about a PCR or 97 to add to the stable.

Either the CZ 75 or 85. Both are great guns.

I sure like my Compacts, shoot them better than the 75s. Would like to get an aluminum compact.

If concealed carry is anywhere on your agenda then the PCR is clearly (and without a doubt) the way to go. It is the best of the best in an already outstanding array of pistols. Go PCR:D

One more vote for the PCR. You can't go wrong.

PCR my one my only CZ, novak style sights, loaded chamber indicator, fits my hand like a glove. The PCR it is my daily beater, small enough, big enough, reliable enough to fill all bills. I have shot a CZ Custom shop SP01, nice trigger, not like a stock CZ, actually for a DA/SA trigger it was a wow moment. My 9mm PCR days may be numbered if my SIG RCS lives up to its potential. Actually I would be more happy with a single stack version of the PCR if there was such a thing, gun makers for the most part are hicap nuts. The RCS needs more testing...

I have multiple CZs and love them all. I'm partial to decockers, so I opt for that. The PCR has a decocker. If you get a 75, the B has a manual safety and the BD has a decocker. The SP-01 has a manual safety and the SP-01 Tactical has a decocker. If you want a PCR with a steel frame and manual safety, get the 75 compact (all steel).

If you want to carry it, the PCR would be better. If it's for range use and home defense, get the full sized, all steel 75.

Just my $.02

The ones with alloy or polymer frames look enticing.
