Darwin Candidate?

There's a fellow I work with that I'd like to nominate for a Darwin award. This fellow, let's call him "Don", is one of those who knows everything and doesn't listen to anyone but himself. Now "Don" and some others decided to take a CHL class. In Texas, that entails a specified number of classroom hours and a shooting qualification session.
"Don" and the others had finished the classroom work and were proceding to the shooting part of the course. Another fellow I work with (call him "Jeff") was in the same class with his wife. "Jeff" met "Don" (who was late, as usual) and offered to help him set up. What gun are you planning on shooting - 9mm Glock or the 45?. "Jeff pulls the Glock out of the bag, checks it - loaded!?! He drops it back in the bag, retrieves the .45 - same thing - loaded!!! Don, you don't have your CHL yet, it's illegal to carry a concealed weapon in your vehicle to a CHL class! "Really?"
The gunclub has a four station setup for CHL qualification, and there happened to be eight people ready to shoot. The instructor set up with four shooting, four loading. He even furnished some carpenter's aprons to hold the ammo. The fellow that "Don" is loading for is shooting a .40 Glock and "Jeff" is set up right next to them. CLICK! "Don's" shooter has a misfire..."Jeff "calls a cease fire and they walk to the back of the range. Rack the slide back, drop the mag, and out of the chamber of the .40 Glock drops a .32ACP round! :what: "Jeff" then unloads the mag and finds two more .32ACP rounds. Don, empty your pouch...Examination reveals ten more .32ACP mixed in with the .40 rounds. Don, what's going on?
"Don's" reply? "I didn't think the 50 round box of ammo was enough, so I dug in my bag and found some more ammo. I noticed it was a little smaller, but I DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE." :what:

I would add that "Don" is the same person that showed me that 9mm Glock last year - muzzle first, with his finger on the trigger! "It's not loaded." He didn't understand why I got upset and offered to let him wear that Glock in an uncomfortable spot of his anatomy.

With friends like these, the RKBA doesn't need any enemies.

He definately deserves the Darwin award. People like this cause accidents that cause the anti's to scream that no one should be allowed to have a firearm.

The trick is for the "accident" to happen before they can reproduce - then eventually we get somewhere as a species!

You need to show "Don" how to look down the end of the barrell to see if it is loaded. :D

7.62 FullMetalJacket-
Unfortunately, Don had already passed the written exam and had posted a passing qualification score on the shooting part. I really think that the instructor was too dumbfounded by the events that he couldn't fail him for his stupidity, cluelessness, ineptness, lack of regard for others (you fill in the adjective). Sadly, he passed the class. There's still the background check, though...

He definitely is not someone we want to join the ranks as a shooter, gun owner or much less CHL.
Some people should not be allowed to own guns.

jar! Stupidity and ignorance are not against the law and Don gets to have his 2nd amendment rights like the rest of us. Sad, I know, but that is how it works.
Don is NOT a Darwin candidate if he has already passed on his genes to offspring.

Yeah, and he's missing one other qualification - he's still living.

Jim ..... I can but only offer you extremes of sympathy - for having to ENDURE this oh so obvious d**khead.
Sad thing is .. he is not only a dnager to himself but - more important - a danger to others.
Ideally IMO - for his total ammo scrrew-up ..... he should have been disqualified from the course.
I prefer the Darwin canditates to do their worst, solo and single handed ... it gets real worrying when others get brought into the frame .... involuntarily.!

"Don" sounds like the model for the "Ignorance can be cured, but stupid is forever" poster. As my daddy used to say, 'everyone has their value, even if it's a good example of a bad example'.

There was a guy I used to work with that carried a G22 in a shoulder rig. One night while at work he whips it out to show me his weapon which he did in a safe manner. I asked him when he got his CCW and he tells me(and I swear I'm not joking) he doesn't need one, he's ex-military! I was dumb-founded! I informed him that being ex-military doesn't cut it and if he gets pulled over the cops will give him a nice set of bracelets to wear. He tells me "no they won't I still have my military ID." I figure it's useless to argue this point any further so I drop the subject. About a week after we had this conversation, while on his way home from work late one night, he gets pulled over and the police officer notices the weapon in his jacket and asks for his CHL and this moron hands him his military ID. The cop arrests him for carrying a concealed weapon and takes his new toy away. He thinks he was falsely arrested and plans to fight the charges is court. I'm still trying to figure out how he was still able to keep his military ID when he was released.

We have a right to keep and bear arms,BUT we have a responsibility to do so legally and safely. This right ,like all others, is not unlimited. Looks like not everyone understands this.

Did "Don" pass the test and get his CHL? If he did, how dumb do you have to be to fail?

As a CWP instructor, it is my obligation to make sure the applicant can pass the written and shooting tests. Also, I can reccomend to the issuing agency that the person not be granted the CWP because he might be a danger to himself or others because of his disregard for safety on the range or in weapon handling in general. This person would not have been permitted to continue with the range test, or would have required some one-on one instruction before I sent his test results in.

He shouldda put 2 32's in..that would be 64....way better than a 40...:D
I have a friend like this...luckily he doesn't shoot........some people need to be locked up for OUR safety......no common sence....:banghead:

Well, try to think like the loon who did this.
The .32ACP is only 8 caliber less than the .40. Since 8 is 20% of 40, the shooter can expect only a 20% reduction in power using the smaller round. Less recoil, less wear and tear on the gun, it sort of makes sense.
