Who carries a BUG?

I'm just curious because this issue comes up once in a while about BUGs.
Some people are adamant about having one, others do so base on the situation, and others can't.

Let's see what THR does with these little things.

Sometimes.

...and a razor in my shoe.

Have in the past. It gets to be too much. A kel tec p32 as a back up gun in a pocket is a good idea. You barely know it's there.

I usually opt for a larger gun instead of a BUG or extra mags, but sometimes I can't go bigger than my Kahr but have no trouble adding a little .380 so I sometimes do carry a BUG.

At my age, and with my lifestyle, needing a backup gun is far less likely then me getting killed by lightening on the way out to the mailbox.

Probably the same for a lot of two-gun folks if they would fess up and admit it.

I carried a BUG daily for 27 years. Now that I'm retired I no longer feel the need, nor do I always CCW, but it is nice to know I can if and when I feel the need.

I'll fess up and admit that the odds of winning the lottery are better than my ever needing a BUG, most likely that would also cover my primary. I carry the BUG because I want to, and it makes deciding to stop and shoot a bit, spur of the moment like, a little more enjoyable. And I have gotten quite comfortable with them, you know, it has gotten to the point of wallet, keys, glasses, guns, all set to go. And it amuses me.

OH yeah, and I haven't purchased a lottery ticket in years...

I carry what I can conceal and sometimes a bug is all I can have in some of my outfits.

No.

I have no problem with people choosing to carry a BUG but to me it's more trouble than it's worth. I'd sooner have one gun and use the extra space on my person for extra mags.

Illegal here in NM to carry 2 CCWs.

I'll reverse the scenario: I always have a J frame or LCP in my pocket. Whether or not I also have something larger IWB or OWB is the only variable.

That's true, you can carry one concealed and one open, but not two concealed. Don't try to make sense of it because it will only lead to a headache like most gun laws will do.

No. Never have. Never will. Been carrying since the 60's
Extra mags or speed loaders, yes.

It really depends on the situation that would call for a BUG, which isn't many. During my career as a LEO, I carried a BUG with a BUG mag in my weak side pocket, EVERY DAY for over 2 years. Now I don't feel the need to carry a BUG for EDC, but I do carry an extra mag.

A good knife, cellphone, small flashlight and extra mag are more important to me than a BUG.

But what if you were a boy scout and you just can't get over that be prepared thing?

When I was an LEO I sometimes carried TWO (2) BUGs. If you see 'no need' for a BUG, you need to watch the movie 'The Onion Field'.

I dont usually carry a BUG, although I have during the coldest months due to so many layers making my (IWB) carry gun harder to get to. So, ironically, the snub or PM9 holstered in my coat pocket was my primary, and my 5" 1911 my BUG...

But what if you were a boy scout and you just can't get over that be prepared thing? Funny you mention that. In my car I carry an ABC fire extinguisher, extensive first aid kit, overnight bag, as well as extra 1911, G17, AR15, and AK47 magazines... I was never in the boy scouts, but like to be prepared.

LCP in my left front pocket in addition to the, these days, 1911 on my right hip. I used to carry it there all the time regardless of wheter I was carry a full sized gun. Unfortunately, my pants are a little tighter these days so I carry it less often.

This ain't Beirut.

I'm not the Police, FBI,CIA,PI,The Sheriff, a bounty hunter, or even the Deputy.

My CCW will probably be used to buy time or space to call 911 anyways.

So, NO to BUGS.(Almost sounds like "Say No to Drugs" Yar Har)

Although I go to the range a lot, and many times I will have more than one gun with me then...

I answered "always," as the most correct answer; I am rarely without 2+. I don't necessarily agree with the terminology, as it is not always clear which weapon is "primary" at a given moment in time. I do indeed have a primary location to wear one handgun, as I virtually always carry at that location, to help ensure there is no fumbling when things go bad.

I carry at this spot, on one hip, even though chronic injuries have caused the arm on that side to no longer be the stronger arm, and the opposite hand has always been the more dextrous hand.

Anthony, on the Warrior Talk forum, coined the term "roving" gun for the second gun, that may change location as one's clothing or environment changes, and he made a case for the term "BUG" as being redundant. He sees the larger double-stack auto, paired with a snubby, as being an ideal combination, with the snubby being the roving gun, not a back-up gun.

I often carry a pair of equal or equivalent guns, that can share reloading devices, though I will also carry a duty pistol, such as my present P229, paired with a revolver. P229/P229, P229/SP101, SP101/SP101, and an S&W Model 19 paired with any of the preceding, are my presently normal combinations.

As already hinted, above, I am functionally ambidextrous, and that is one reason to carry two.

Another factor is that one hand can become injured or hindered, at which point the ability to draw a second weapon may be vital. Added to this is that one of my hands is already impaired. Ambidextrous malfunction-clearance drills are already very difficult for me; I may as well proceed to a one-handed drill. If, however, it is not a drill, but real life, why fight to get one weapon back up and running, when there is already a good one right there?

I don't buy the argument that one rarely needs one gun, and therefore two is a statistical anomaly. I say that needing one is a statistical anomaly, so why carry one? The way I see it, if I need one, I may need an arsenal. I don't know what the gunfight will be like, ahead of time. Stats are cold comfort; many of those stats are derived from incidents in which the good guy died.

I know, from doing it regularly, that two is comfortable. I know, from shorter experiments, that I can carry three comfortably enough.

Sometimes, one is for a another person to use. Again, this is not theoretical. I can carry virtually everywhere in my home state, on my badge. My wife must carry on a CHL, and there are a patchwork of places we go where a CHL is not a legal means of carry.

I could write a book, but it is time to dress for work. Y'all be safe! :)

Bug will be either the CIA 850 38+p hammerless 17oz loaded,
or the keltec 380 in a wallet holster

I only consider a .40 or .45 as a main gun.
.380 and 9mm are bugs to me and are carried as a second gun some times. Currently i don't own a gun in that caliber and size so i haven't been carrying one.
But i have a Kahr MK9 on order to pick up after Christmas and ill most likley carry it as a bug like i did previously with my Sig P238 i sold 6 months ago.
I always carry a spare mag for my main gun whether i carry a bug or not.
In all honestly i see a bug as a novelty and carry it only because i like the gun, And not so much that i feel i may need to use it.

I also always carry a mid sized folder Benchmade knife which many would see as a viable weapon but to me its a box cutter.

Im not knocking the .380 and 9mm round when i say i feel they are only bug calibers imo.
Even tho both are very deadly i much prefer the .40 and .45 for a main gun and see no reason to knock someone who chooses a .380 or 9mm as a main gun.
Its just personal preference.
And to be honest i dislike the .40 due to its recoil, But i will still carry it.

I keep a .38 snub around as a BUG inside my home, I usually leave the house with only one weapon though. I keep a large folder or a straight razor on me as a last ditch.

I carry a Kahr PM-9 in a pocket holster and then either a Glock17, CZ-40 or S&W M&P45 either in the car or at my bedside.

nope, never do

like an old fellow I used to know was fond of saying -

(besides, once you start carrying them, they multiply real quick you know !)

Reported to the mods for an evaluation of posting rights due to lack of gun toting.
lol j/k with ya.
Maybe i just live too close to a large city and watch the news some times as i would be carrying 3 guns if i watched it constantly.

It's not so much a BUG as a New York Reload. I will sometimes carry both of my S&W J-frames.

I am a retired LEO and go armed at all times,I also took up wilderness survival/campingouts.

The motto is one is none and two is one,I think it is self explanatory and therefore I carry 2 [ usually 3 ] knives.

And at least 2 firstarter mathods as well as 2 ways to make shelter and gather/carry water.

So stands to reason that if/when I go into the woods or in possible harms way = I carry a BUG .

Depending on where I am going [ woods=.22 RF ] the caliber changes and the location does also.

Adapt and SURVIVE !.
