I don't know how, but I know my fans here and at Baen's site are responsible.

Freehold, my pro-freedom, pro-gun military/political SF novel started getting rated back in July, based on pre-orders. Of Amazon's 3 million books, it worked it's way up to 800,000 by two weeks ago.

Last week it was at 71,000, then 81,000, then 78,000....

This morning it was at 5173...

It just peaked at 2143 and has dropped slightly again.

I'm looking at possibly hitting the top 1000....

And so far, there's only one review up. Though it is favorable. And it's from FRANCE!!!

Thanks much.

May the God, Goddess or Deity of Your Choice bless, curse or completely ignore you, according to your wishes.

I'm not sure how Amazon calculates that number. Mine goes up and down by thousands every other day, I can't figure it out. I was shipping about 30 books a week to Amazon (two cases) until my first edition ran out, now I'm building back up with a new account with my second edition.

It's a modified asymtotic curve, so it's easier to go from 3,000,000 to 2,999,999 (only requires one sale per period) than from #2 to #1 (requires thousands or millions of sales).

They measure every two weeks, or daily in the top 100K, or hourly in the top 10K.

I have no idea how many are shipped. That's up to Simon and Schuster's distribution. I do know Baker and Taylor distr had 200 copies this morning, in four warehouses. Amazon has about the same. Ingram would have more. All chain bookstores within 200 miles of me have 2 copies each.

And it's up to #1930 as of 2315 EST :D

I've been getting fan mail and good reviews. I'm eagerly awaiting the hate mail and frothing, misspelled diatribes of the offended anti-gun nanny-statists.

encouragement and the great books.
i am trying to write my first book. i hand wrote a lot of stories before. my friends have encouraged me to try to get one printed. they've read the first 38,000 words and tell me its good, at least to my face anyway. i am in the laborous stage of typing it out now. i get discouraged sometimes, these posts help thanks.
