Recently aquired this Ruger 10/22. It's known as a "finger groove" model. It has a lower serial number 5740x, which dates it to 1966. It also has no Ruger warning stamped on the barrel.
The 10/22 was pretty grungy when I got it, but it cleaned up well. On the bottom side of the barrel, under the front sight is som pitting. Looks like someone left it in a gun case to long. It's not a perfect 10/22, but a very serviceable shooter.
Anyone else happen to like Ruger 10/22's?

Very nice. You have yourself one of the most desirable models out there, in nice shape to.

The only 10/22 I have at the moment is what I am calling "the 10/22 Ruger should pull their heads out of their butts and build". It is starting with a nice DSP stock.

Excellent score. That wood is in nice condition. I well find a affordable finger groove some day.

Wow, pretty!

That looks like my grand-dad's 10/22 I remember from my childhood. His had that great, elegant stock that made it feel like a "real" rifle. My 10/22 from the early '90s has the "hunk-o-2x4" stock with barrel band that's more common.

I've considered building it into a "race gun" or some other configuration, but that right there is what I really want to do with it.

Anyone know where to get a stock like that now? (Besides the $289 option I found on eBay! :what:)

Nice, I would trade that for my 2009 10/22 any day.

I'd love to find a nice walnut sporter for the 10/22 but none are available off the shelf. The walnut DSP stock is not too comfortable to me and the laminates leave me a little cold.

I have this rifle. http://ruger.com/products/1022Sporter/models.html It is possible to get a walnut sporter from Ruger. Last time I priced them they were only a few $ more than the standard rifle. I like mine.

I bought a 10/22 Rifle (not the carbine) about five years ago. It had a barrel a couple of inches longer than the carbine, and the stock didn't have a barrel band or a curved butt plate. Unfortunately it had a hardwood stock. I bought the checkered walnut stock (from Ruger) that jmr40 linked, and have a really nice 10/22. As I recall I paid $75.00 or so for the stock, and sold my old one on GunBroker.
