G-20 aftermarket springs, 20 vs 22 lbs ?

I already have a ton of advise regarding aftermarket barrels for the G-20.

Who makes the best for the money aftermarket recoil spring and guide?

Is there any advantage to the 22 pound spring over the 20?

The load I have settled upon is a 200 grain fmj, WW brass, a CCI-350 mag primer, and 14 grains of AA#9.
It gives me 1,185 fps from the 4.6 inch barrel and a 3/4 inch group at 15 yards. Although it is a tad hard on the brass.

Makes me wonder how a 6 inch hunting barrel would do .....??

ISMI, best overall IMHO.

I have settled on a 20# for my gun. I had 1 stove pipe with the 22lb'er, I think it was a fluke but its still unacceptable if the gun is gonna be used for defensive purposes.

AND...

the guy that runs Swampfox Ammo tests his rounds with the stock 17# spring, i think that says a lot about how well thes guns are set up for the hot stuff right out of the box, so again i feel 20# is plenty

I am getting a lot of firing pin drag, so it seems like the slide is opening a little early.
Do they offer them with a guide? I can't get their web site to work.

I have been looking at the Wolf springs as well.

I'll second the ISMI springs and the 20# spring. Tried ISMI 20 and 22 pounders on a Glockmeister SS captive guide rod. I was running 180 gr XTPs over a Hornady max listed charge of AA#9, IIRC. Put the 20 pound spring back on it. The 22 did smooth things out a little more and kept brass closer, but I don't think it was worth the additional muzzle flip. The 20 pound spring makes it not quite as snappy and keeps the brass in the same county, but doesn't increase recoil like the heavier spring.

The people who've chronied their aftermarket G20 barrels have found that the 6" conventionally rifled barrels produce more or less the same velocity as the 4.6" stock barrel. From what I've read, some are very slightly faster. Some are very slightly slower. That's something you might be more interested in if you wanted to meet handgun hunting restrictions, have the end threaded or ported, or to shoot reloads. If you wanted more velocity from a G17/22 you could opt for the (expensive!) Glock G34/35/17L/24 OEM barrel. They cost half as much as the entire pistol, though. Might as well buy the whole thing!

Too bad this stock barrel has a chamber that is loose as a dead goose. Two reloads and my brass is pretty well done...

if you wanted to meet handgun hunting restrictions
Not a concern up here.

Interesting point about the different type of rifling... I tried to go onto the Glock-talk site in the 10mm section, but for some reason I can't get anything to post...and nobody from there is answering e-mails...

Wolff 20# spring in my G20 SF, although I might go to a 22# spring because I get about a 10-15% FTFeed rate when using my LW barrel......the chamber is a little too tight.
I only shoot hot handloads in mine, so 20# or 22# will work.

I know that the factory G20 springs are supposedly around 17 pounds, but the one in my pistol is rather wimpy. I fired a magazine full of low velocity 40 S&Ws through it without a malfunction.

I hope you were using a conversion barrel

my G20 cycles .40 target loads in my LWD conversion barrel with a 22 lb spring in it, so i dont think there is anything wrong with your gun.

Nope.. Just the stock factory 10mm barrel. I loaded up 15 rounds of 40 and went bang, bang, bang. It was crappy re-man stuff with 180 grain fmj doing 900 fps over the chronograph gates.

I was curious if it would work in a pinch... and we wanted to chrono those loads to get an idea.

Wearing a full face snowmachine helmet and heavy Carharts just in case...

yeah.... dont do that.
the inch and a half of foam in that helmet wont do a lot to save you.

Mine has a 22# Wolf spring with steel guide rod. I load 200 XTP over maximum charge of Accurate 9 and drive it down a 5 inch KKM barrel. Brass looks a lot better than out of the stock barrel.

The KKM barrel is what I will be buying after the Christmas spending rush.
The grand-kids are getting expensive..

Gofastman: Here in Alaska we call the first one a Snow-Maker (which are seldom used or seen) and the second a Snow Machine. Nobody here (who is really from here) calls anything a snowmobile. Although back when I was Law Dawging in the villages, some folks called them Snow-Go's. It is easier to say when you are missing a few front teeth.
Since we are being flooded with an influx of carpet-bagging outsiders, I am sure that the Alaskan Lexicon will eventually sound just like everywhere else.

thats a barrel issue, not a spring issue, i would strongly recommend you send it in for repair, they really stand behind their stuff.
