The .41Mag will shoot flatter but, if we're talking about "Ruger only" loads in the .45Colt, there's not really enough of a difference to matter at ethical handgun ranges. Say, out to 100yds or so. Don't have either of those but Dad's .44 is an excellent shooter and even 355's@1200fps are only about four inches low at 100yds with a 50yd zero.

Not in either of the calibers you mentioned, but I love mine in .44 mag (top shot before I adjusted elevation on the scope)

Hey Craig, which model Burris is that? The NC Star is a loaner, and just too big for practical use (anything other than sandbags at the range).

I find the variables to be too bulky too. I've got a Burris 2.5-7x on my Super Redhawk .480 and it's way too much scope but it's one I had laying around. The one above is a straight 2x and is about perfect.

I don't have a .45 Colt, but no deer I've hit inside 75 yards with the .41 has gone more than 10 yards. Scopes are probably very useful, but I don't care for them on my hunting revolvers.

If you have a choice between the two, get the .45 Colt. Ruger didn't make too many of the Hunters in .45 Colt, and they're hard to find. Hunters in .41 Magnum just aren't that rare.

I have a .41 mag and a .45 colt both 7 1/2" Bisleys. I have taken deer with both. I have a slight preference for the .41 it does shoot slightly flatter. I like the 210 grain Hornady XTP for it. As far a hunting with the .45 I think the Ruger only handloads are a must. I like hard cast flat nose Keith style bullets with gas checks or the 250 grain XTP for it. As for varmint hunting I absolutely love shooting coyote with a 215 grain SWC out of my .41. It's good coyote dope out to 200 yards.

I had a Ruger Hunter Bisley in 45 Colt and it was great, It never was used for hunting but the 255 gr LSWC loads I had were handfulls and the dirt splash was huge.
I sold it because I prefer a regular grip.
