Has anybody had any experience with Kel Tec’s warranty service?

I bought a .380 and it was missing a part!!! The extractor (?)

I sent it in for warranty ONE MONTH ago and I still haven’t gotten it back!

WTH? The shop I bought it from has called them a few times and kel tec keeps telling them they will “flag” it and send it back by the end of the week… Still haven’t received it! They are calling Kel Tec, ONCE AGAIN, right now. Can’t wait to hear what they have to say this time!

All I know is I will NEVER buy another Kel Tec again. This is the worst service! I bought it for protection and been without it for a month! My neighbor’s told me this house use to be broken into all the time. Thankfully I have two big dogs.

But seriously, sorry for the rant – I’m so angry!

Anybody else experienced this kind of service with them?

That's quite strange, every single contact I've had with Kel-Tec has been positive. I'm puzzled why you haven't called Kel-Tec yourself?

Your "lost extractor" is probably a lost Ejector, as they can fall out when you take the slide off for cleaning.
Look on the floor for it!

You should have noticed a missing Extractor when you bought the gun, as if it isn't in the slide, it would leave a big gapping hole in the slide that Ray Charles could see.

Kel-Tec has an excellent reputation for service and no questions ask warrenty work.
But this is Thanksgiving week and they may not even be there.

No reason at all to send the whole gun back in though.
If you had ask, they would have sent you one or two ejectors free in the next days mail.

The other thing is, you apparently only live about 60 miles from Coca Beach, FL.
Go pound on thier desk Monday morning instead of bad-mouthing them with your first post here!

You call them, and if you don't get to talk with a tech (or the owner of the company, nice guy BTW)

They send it out to you (usually for free, unless your are really an idiot and mean)
and you put it on, hell they sent me a new recoil spring for a USED P11, free, checked the serial number, and offered me the new hammer, damnit, their version of a sear. I mean to get around to asking for the reduced hammer spring for the P11 to improve the trigger.

OH, KT has a pretty loyal following, because of their customer service, also the extractor is usually a piece of spring steel bolted onto the slide is a machined cutout. if it's missing, it will take all of 2 seconds to install.

OK, wait, you are not dealing with KT, ever consider that the Gun shop, and second hand to KT.
listen, its the holidays, and FREE customer service is sometimes less than timely, but if you wanted it fixed yesterday, I guess you should have done it yourself, OR taken it to a gunsmith who keeps parts for it around. WHEN it comes back, it most likely will have been gone over with a fine tooth comb, and have the 'factory fluff and buff' that many swear is one of the best in the business, making a 'crummy cheap gun' into a very polished gun.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
OH and what he said, your LGS also could have mailed it by regular post, and that takes a while TOO

RC - Yes it was missing the ejector! Thank you for the correction.. BTW - I feel it appropriate to express my frustration given the circumstances. This is my first gun so I'm looking for a little guidance!
I know they have an excellent reputation which is why I bought one, but now I'm finding out otherwise!

I have heard HUNDREDS of reports of friendly, quick customer service from KT. Even those who don't like them usually admit the customer care they received wasn't the problem. And then...there's you.

So, Occam's razor tells me the chances are slim that the problem is really KelTec customer care. The remaining likely choices (not calling names, jusf identifying potentials):

o The gunstore is the problem
o You're a troll

If this is an honest, earnest post from you- despite being very strange for a first post- that only leaves one likely option.

KelTec's # is 321 631 0068. They'll be back Monday. Be nice. ;)

I bought a p3at and also found the extractor missing. It is a very small part that falls out easily when you disasemble. I called Ketec and they send me one free of charge. It is sure not something you need to send the gun back to the factory to fix.

I'm not sure why i seem to be getting attacked for this post... A troll? really? Why would this be a strange first post? I joined because I had a problem and needed some feedback. Gah, have mercy! This is an honest issue that i'm having. I know about their reputation, again, that's why I went with a Kel-Tec. As i've already said, it's my first gun.
Perhaps i should have elaborated on the fact that i'm a single female, new to this area, no family and don't know many people. Apparantly I have joined the wrong forum for this issue, I apologize for troubling you all. To those who have given me advice I will follow up on Monday with a call to Kel Tec and I sincerely thank you for your help.

I have to admit I've only had very good results with Kel-Tec. They answered my E-Mail with in a couple of hours, had the part I needed in the mail that day. To tell on my self I had lost the part and was willing to pay for it. But no problem, they sent it and with in a couple of days I had it. I can't under stand your delay in getting it fixed, unless they didn't have the part on hand and had to order it. Dawn, don't take offence, it's just that your first post seemed a little odd and heavy handed. Good bunch of folks here that will go out of their way to help you. Trust me. ( chuckle chuckle ). I also wonder if part of your problem is the gun shop itself. By the way, the little Kel-Tec 380 is a good gun, light and as a rule reliable.:D

google KTOG Kel Tec Owners Group...

I had a problem with a new PLR22 misfeeding and asked the question there. One of the members PM'ed me and told me exactly how to fix it myself, and I did. 2K rounds later and I still have not had one FTF or FTE that was the fault of the gun... a wealth of info for Kel Tec owners.

I'm taking something very beneficial away from this thread. The people here defending KT, I look upon as word-of-mouth references.

Apparently Kel-Tec has good CS, which is important to me...

While returning a gun via the local shop you got it from is appealing -- they can send it back cheaply, while FedEX, UPS, etc. get to gouge you with overnight shipping required "policy", I've had very bad luck doing this.

The local store was slow to send it out, and had it for a month claiming they never received it, they only "found" it after Kahr sent me a tracking number which showed it had been delivered to them a month earlier!

My limited personal experience with Kel-Tec customer service was very good.

Your gun store is trying to keep you from dealing direct with the manufacturer (i.e. control the information = control the customer). I seriously would avoid dealing with that particular gun shop in the future, since you are implying they sold the pistol to you sans extractor.

As others have already noted, KT will very likely send you the extractor for free otherwise, it's a total of $6 on your end - shipping included. Finally, the extractor is an easily installed part. All you need is the right size allen-wrench.

...and they're reliable, inexpensive AND Made in the USA... That's why I have 3 of 'em and will probably get the long guns next.

The Kel-Tec service department is busy, very busy.
I had to send my PF9 in and was told the turnaround was up to 8-9 weeks instead of the usual 4-6!!!

I have owned 3 Kel Tecs and have had to deal with their customer service department twice.

Once was for a broken front sight post for a Sub 2000 rifle. The S2K is a very innovative design, and I truly wanted to like that rifle. If they'd spent an extra $100 on construction, it could have been a great design but instead was plagued by POS components. Their CS was very friendly and sent out an entire front sight assembly (instead of just the post I needed) free of charge, no questions asked.

The last Kel Tec I bought was a P3AT, during the .380 ammo shortage. Ammo was running $30 a box, and I got a gun that wouldn't make it through a magazine without a double feed or FT Extract. Shot the recommended 200 rounds through it and it never got better. Sent it back to the factory and they returned it 2 months later, WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. Sold it for a S&W 442 and never looked back.

So yes, Kel Tec CS is very friendly. They need to be, as they get a lot of calls. I support American companies whenever I can, and will even spend more money to do so but Kel Tec has been absolute junk in my experience. If you want a Kel Tec, let KT design the product and then wait a few years til another manufacturer copies it and makes one that works.

Personally, I'd rather buy a Taurus. At least when I bought a broken gun from them they sent back one that worked!

Kel tec guns are relatively inexpensive (with the exception of the RFB) and when you handle them it is pretty clear why.

I have to say my Sub 2k runs great. The front sight post does not inspire confidence in its durability. You can get third party replacements. I paid $265 for it so you know what they say.

I'm surprised at the initial attitude of some of the posters in this thread. Definitely not very tactful and some posters make THR seem like a very unwelcoming forum.

Kel Tec owners are a loyal group. Many of them stuck with the company through it's "growing pains" and feel that the company is now producing some pretty nice guns. I know a few people that carry newer ones and love them. A couple even prefer them to the more refined Ruger LCP which is a pretty "similar" (wink wink) design to the P3AT.

Equally, a good number of people (such as myself) had early production Kel Tec pistols (mine was a P32) because the LOVED the idea of such a small and lightweight gun. However, they found the guns to be problematic and were turned-off to the brand because of their experience. This lead to ALOT of Kel Tecs being sold for very cheap on the used market and further damaged their reputation for quality.

The new owners and people that kept them figured out many of the problems came from issues caused by poor finishing work. They remedied them pretty well by doing the final finishing work themselves. (Look-up Kel Tec "fluff & buff".) Eventually, the factory took notice and started doing a better job on their new guns and Kel Tec started to earn a reputation for making a decent firearm.

Personally, I still won't buy another Kel Tec but will quickly tell you that the newer ones are better than the old ones. (I would now trust a newer P3AT.) That said, I feel the Ruger LCP is better gun and delivers higher quality without costing too much more money.

Kel Tec can be described as such, "Some people swear BY them." and "Some people swear AT them." I wish you good luck and hope you get your gun fixed soon.

My experience with Kel-Tec's customer service...

About five years ago I experienced a problem with my Kel-Tec P32 (FTF when using a brand new 10 round magazine). I contacted Kel-Tec, explaining the problem and they deduced the 10 round magazine was causing the error. They then shipped me a new 10 round magazine and an extra magazine spring for free. The magazine spring in the 10 round magazine that I owned was defective and I replaced it with the extra magazine spring that Kel-Tec sent me. Ended up with two 10 round magazines that have been 100% reliable.

Summary:
-Experienced FTF with P32 when using newly acquired 10 round magazine.
-Contacted Kel-Tec (directly) and described problem.
-Kel-Tec sent me a new 10 round magazine and an extra magazine spring for free.

Well, this thread was embarrassing. :banghead:

UPDATE: After discussing this with the OP, she feels she has a perfect picture of just who we are and what we have to offer. And, on the basis of the welcome she received here, she wants nothing more to do with us.

Thanks guys. Way to treat a new gun owner.
