Kingofthehill November 29, 2010, 08:54 PM Very nice!...
IMO i think for my personal use/taste i would rather have this as well. The P238 is cool but its not a fun gun to shoot a lot of ammo through. Not to mention so many still have issues.
Im waiting to come across that same 9mm Tactical Rock Island.

wally November 29, 2010, 09:02 PM Got mine from Centerfire Systems, they list them in my last flyer for $429.
I changed the grips and got a bunch Metalform mags from CDNN. If yours is like mine you are going to love it! Had a hard time getting it back from my wife after she started mowing down the steel plates with it. Very soft shooting.
viking499 November 29, 2010, 09:03 PM Need a range report after you get a chance to shoot it.
vikz November 29, 2010, 09:57 PM Viking I will asap, the weather here is been terrible! its lower 20's the whole week with 1 foot of snow coming our way so it might take a week or 2 for me to try it..or maybe as soon as i get ammo this friday..I'll brave the cold jst becs its a 1911..hehehe..
viking499 November 29, 2010, 10:01 PM Sounds like a good plan.
devildog4329 November 29, 2010, 11:29 PM I love my RIA tactical in .45 and have been wanting to pick up the 9mm as well. I think I will wait and see if they bring one out in a commander or compact offering though. Glad you like yours and enjoy.
chupacabrah November 30, 2010, 07:02 AM very nice. I bet it's great to shoot, and ammo is much cheaper than .45 acp :-)
how many rounds does the 9mm hold?
still only 8?
camsdaddy November 30, 2010, 07:40 AM Oh yeah have a feeling when more compact offerings are available ill have to have one
rbernie November 30, 2010, 08:49 AM As an aside - the best 9mm 1911 magazines (by a pretty good margin) have proven to me to be the Springfield/Leatham design. If you're serious about shooting 9mm in a 1911 platform, I highly recommend switching over to them.
dogsoldier0513 November 30, 2010, 11:47 AM If it was available with a rail, I'd want one as a basis for a 'house gun'. Is anyone from RIA listening???????
doc540 November 30, 2010, 12:54 PM votes for Virgil Tripp mags
and congrats on your shooter there
Jed Carter December 1, 2010, 05:02 AM 1911 in 9mm, what a shooter, I have 2. First I have an older Colt series 70, it shoots more than OK. Then my STI arrived in September, unbelievable IPSC/IDPA pistol. You're gunna love it.
tinygnat219 December 1, 2010, 07:30 AM I just picked up one of these myself, used.
It shoots 9MM ball all day. It seems to have trouble with some of the Hollowpoints out there like Hornady's 115 grain XTP load, but none with the 124 Grain +P Speer Gold Dot. I don't plan on carrying this gun, I just plan on using it as a paper puncher / range toy and so far it's been giggle inducing fun.
I haven't tried any more JHP loads with this gun as Wolf 115 Grain FMJ is plentiful, but it's definitely going to be a keeper.
DasFriek December 1, 2010, 09:45 AM If im not mistaken Arnel the Master Smith at RIA in Nevada will make the gun shoot most HP's if you send it in. I dont recall if they charge for that, But i dont think so.
I have the RIA 3.5" officers and right in the manual is states "Ball ammo only".
Which i found odd but still smart seeing how finicky these small guns like mine can be.
But i tried to purposely jamb mine the first 150 rounds and i had no luck and it ate everything without issue.
BTW if you havent shot it yet, Be sure to tear it down and inspect it and clean in even tho mine was flawless and spotless except the slide face where it was test fired.
But the main issue was it was bone dry everywhere, And rails with parkerization on them with no lube is asking for feeding issues due to friction slowing the slide. I lubed the complete gun especially the trigger and fire group and the rails and barrel lugs with Slide Glide and after 150 rounds my feels like its on ball bearings when i pull the slide back.
vikz December 6, 2010, 01:39 PM Hello Guys/Gals! I was able to try this RIA yesterday and gotta say I love it!!.Did not have any malfunctions (as always),recoil is very very manageable and accuracy is just amazing, I just wish i had more ammo!. I only had 150 rounds and even in freezing cold (it was in the upper 20'F)this thing never hiccuped!. Anyway enough rumbling here is a close-up video of me shooting my "rock"!!..I am also planning on engraving the grips with something not sure what yet and then refinishing the grips to a darker color stain..

CZ223 December 6, 2010, 05:44 PM Just in time for IDPA season to be over up here in the Great White North.:D I bought it for the same reasons it seems as tiny gnat. Mine works great with FMJ ammo and Checkmate Mags. The only JHP that I found that works pretty well is Remington that you buy at Walmart. I also don't intend for this to be used as a carry gun. I have lots of 1911's in 45ACP that I use for that. I really like mine a lot. The only problem is that it cuts my splits in half and, if I try to go that fast with my 45's I am going to miss more.
CZ223 December 6, 2010, 06:05 PM If I can post a couple of pics. I duracoated it a couple weeks after I bought it.
