Anyone CCW a long gun?

I've seen a few threads about multiple BG robbery scenarios lately. It got me to thinking. While our more rural members probably carry long guns for protection against animals, what about the city folk? Does anyone ever carry a long gun in a backpack/duffel bag/etc for protection? What would be the most practical gun to do this with? Cruiser Mossie? Preban folding stock AK? Para FAL?

Never tried it myself, but I bet the most appropriate rifle would be something like a Krinkov, with its folding stock and short barrel.

Check you state and local laws on this one. CCW of long guns, sub guns, etc is ok in some places, but Verboten in others.

Chipperman: if it is legal to pack a pistol, why would it be illegal to pack a long gun? :scrutiny:

Depends. Some Licenses state on them "License to Carry a Handgun". Others say "License to carry a concealed weapon" There is obviously a big difference between them. Pull out your license and see what it says.

This is what mine say:
MA-- Class A Large Capacity
License to Carry Firearms
NH-- Pistol/Revolver License
PA-- License to Carry Firearms

Beyond what the license says on the face, each state has its own Regs as far as what is and is not OK.

Unless you are on your own property, a concealed long gun is illegal in NC unfortunately. :fire:

I specifically asked this in my CCW class, plus it's on the AG website somewhere.

Well, I usually conceal carry my FAL and 10-mag light combat load under the appropriate clothing, but it's getting in my way at the discotheque. (It does add three inches to my height, though.) For occasions such as this, my new constant carry rifle will be the Bison 3 in 7.62x25mm. Yeah, I know it's practically useless because it's only a pistol cartridge, even though it penetrates Level II body armor, but what can you do. At least I back it up with a Mossberg Cruiser pistol grip SG, loaded with buckshot, the Deadliest Weapon Known to Man, and equipped with an Reflex II ACOG and complemented by PVS-14 night vision. I usually have a full complement of pyro to delay, destract, and destroy the perps, but I keep forgetting them. Unfortunately, I seem to have run out of room for my hydration system. Suggestions appreciated.

Strangely enough, you can carry a long gun for ccw here in Cali. The actual text on the license says 'License to Carry Concealed Pistol, Revolver or Other Firearm' The owner of the range I used to manage had a pistol gripped Rem 870 on his license and as far as I know, he may still.

We were the local Class III/NFA dealer for LEO in the area and routinely transported select fire weapons in our personal vehicles; the 870 was his truck gun. Watching him do the range qual with it was a hoot.

REALLY?????

Maybe I'll try to CCW my AR next time I stop off at the Sherrif's office.

Have heard of a guy who did CCW his HK SP89 as a pistol.

Hummmm.....makes me think.

In Texas you can CC a rifle, shotgun or Title 2 weapon w/o a license.

You cant even trasnport a loaded (a single round in attached magazine OR chamber) long-arm in WA with or without permit. So i would imagine that CCing one is off-limits too.

In CA we have to provide the SNs of the exact guns.

Does anyone know if we can list more than 3? The application form I have only has space for 3...

Here in KY it is a CCDW (Concealed Carry Deadly Weapon). In class we were essentially told that if you can get it under your coat you can carry whatever you want.

That said, in my situation today, the odds are that I will never need my pistol let alone be in a situation where the pistol isn't enough to at least make a good start at getting out of that situation. For now I think I'll stick with a couple of pounds of brass & steel on my hip rather than a few pounds of shotgun/rifle slung over my shoulder (& under my trench coat that I could never take off).

Funnily enough, I ran into a similar problem when CCW'ing my 16" Bushamster with Beta-C mag and Stryker 12 gauge. I carry them in a custom dual shoulder rig. Really rawks.
Anyway, what I did was move the bladder for my hydration system into a slightly modified Thunderwear holster. It's conveneient, comfortable, and the chix love it.
YMMV, of course.

According to SC law, it must be under 12 inches. Well, I guess I've been safe all my adult life. :D On second though :(

AZ says whatever, however, and how many you want to carry is OK, as long as it's previoulsy legal, including any title 3 on the National Registry. I know one individual who regularly carried a MAC 13 on an old SMZ rig, with suppressor, and twin 32 rnd mags off side, Colt 1911 strong side, Seecamp weak side front pocket, and Stinger 22 pen gun shirt pocket.
Another guy showed up to my last job wearing his black leather trench coat, with, deep breath, Glock thigh holster each side, Witness belt strong side, Smith mod 10 shoulder rig weak side, Bersa 380 shoulder rig strong side, and AKM folding stock with 75 round drum and flare launcher slung strong side. No, I am not kidding - wish I'd had a camera.
The boss made him leave most the hardware in the vault, but the AK rode with him in the truck that day....

In Arkansas, there are length and weight limitations on your CCW pieces, as well as the statement that it must be capable of being fired with only one hand.

Although you can carry just about whatever long gun you wish in your truck.

Have heard of a guy who did CCW his HK SP89 as a pistol.

I thought an SP89 WAS a pistol...a big one, but a pistol nonetheless.

Now, if it was a HK 51 being CCW'ed, that would raise an eyebrow or two.

Ian...wow. I mean really. A, uhm, unique source or dietary fiber and essential iron.

artherd; the number of firearms is determined by the issuing agency; your local PD or SOs. Yes the license only has space for three firearms, but my issuing agency (Sheriff's Office) up until this year, allowed four. This year they went down to two.

Florida allows concealed weapons.

Didja ever try to hide a folding M1A with a towel and baggies?? You know, in case the Germans send any more subs to our shores!

Maybe I could put a Penn reel on it, and call it a Hi-Cap surf rod?

Here in Arkansas the laws are pretty cool when it comes to what you can carry in you vehicle. Leave it in plain site(rack or on seat) and NOT chambered. I have an old mini-14 w/ folding stock and 16" barrel and twin 30rd clips that I've carried in my truck for years. I've been pulled over twice in the last two years and both times at night. The only thing that was said to me by the police officers were "Wow, is that a mini-14? You don't see very many of those around these days."

Here in Michigan, your license is a CPL, a concealed pistols license. Carry a long gun under your long leather duster and get caught and you're probably dog meat.

For those of you who weren't paying attention the first time....

I am assuming you'd carry the long gun off of your body ie in a backpack or duffel of some sort.

That's excellent, and makes so much sense.

At least we can still move guns in our cars in CA, but they have to be unloaded (which means mag detatched.)

I had a friend who would carry a folding stock 870 in a duffel bag with him around town. Problem came when he visted my house, which was on campus of a university-- he had to alter his itinerary to keep from committing a felony. (He was utterly legal in every way about how he was doing this.)

Texas law prohibits carrying a handgun w/o a license. There is no law against carrying a longarm or machinegun w/o a license, so it's legal to do so as long as you don't carry in a prohibited area (school, any business with an alcohol license, etc.) There may be local laws against carrying longarms, but those laws are illegal under state law.
