I accidentally put 5 grains of Olin 231 in an almost full 1 pound can of 748.Should this be dumped or a thourgh shaking be OK?

You should send it to me!

If you'll mix it thoroughly, I think you'll be OK. Really, what you need to explore is the process that allowed this to happen. This is not something you want to make a habit of doing. I keep the powder on a shelf far from the bench. The only powder I let near the bench is the powder I'm using. And only 1 can at a time visits the bench.

A Google shaking should take care of such a small amount. I, once dumped half a Hopper of Herco, into a can of 2400. The grass grew well in the spot I, dumped it at.

That's like 1/10th of 1%, hardly enough to even notice.

BUT, like said above, you really should explore the process that allowed this to happen.

I have been reloading 40 years and simply got the cans mixed up. First time this has happened and it will be the last.

Heck, accidents can happen to the best of us... After 40 years you were due for one mistake and it was a small one since no one was hurt and no guns were harmed during this filming.. lol

I should have known you were reloading for a very long time when you called W231 "Olin 231", that was a huge clue...

when you called W231 "Olin 231", that was a huge clue... Yep, sooner or later we all make mistakes. The good ones catch themselves through a good loading/checking process. ;)

I wouldn't use it for match shooting, but if thoroughly mixed I can't see where it would pose a problem with less than max loads. I mean, maybe a couple of flakes of 231 in a case of 748. I would constantly mix it every time I used it and be glad when it was gone.
