Dan Wesson and Ed Brown both bobbed the 1911's like that. Might be a place to start.

The selection of companies marketing 1911 now is like cereal isle in a supermarket. I miss the days when there were only Colt and Detonics.

Other than minimizing the amount the guns prints, is there any other functional purpose for bobbing?

I plan on having my RIA compact bobbed (along with other work) in the near future once my 'smith's schedule clears up a bit. It definitely helps for someone with smaller hands, and I think it looks pretty stylish too.

Isn't that rather like saying, other than the power, is there any other functional purpose for a V10/V12/W16 engine or turbo/super charging?
The whole point of the bobtail modification is to reduce the most obvious printing point of a 1911...especially when carried IWB
altho if that's so, the short trigger and a flat MSH should be utilized.
The CBOB already ultilizes a flat MSH, the curve of the bobtail is into the frame

My Dan Wesson CBOB just feel better than any of my Colts. That corner removed make for more comfortable shooting for me it also conceals a little better . Iam going to have a Colt Commander done same way.

I was lucky enough to get one in 2008, before they were discontinued. They now offer the VBOB in its place, but it's about $500 more expensive.
