Hello. I have nothing but S&W revolvers and never considered getting a Colt as they did not appeal to me and seemed way too expensive. I just put a Colt Python Elite on lay-a-way at my local fun shop. It seemed to call out to me and I could not resist it. I am not sure of the year it was made but I think it may have been made in the early 2000's as it's serial number begins with PE. It is complete with all it's papers and box including it's original shipping box and appears to be unfired. The fit and finish of this gun is perfect with a smooth trigger and tight lock work. Definitely a work of art. I am buying it for $2000 OTD. This is the most I have ever payed for any gun. I think this is a good price but I am not sure. Is this a good price? Also, what holster is recommended for this gun? Thanks.

WHEW, does seem a little high, I know those snakes are getting higher, but that seems a little excessive. Is this the royal blued one or stainless? Barrel length?

I just took a break from here, looked at the Python Elite, you might be getting more than I originally thought! I saw on one web site, $2600 for a 6" stainless. My error on my first post, I didn't pay attention to the "Elite" part, my bad! I bought one 25 years ago, definitely wasn't anywhere near 2K for it, more like $250.00. They hold their value, I've been offered $700.00 for mine, w/o the box! Since you know good guns, S&W, so, step up and enjoy the good life, buy that dude! Holsters, check out Safariland, go onto Google and just punch in holsters, there'll be many to choose from, but don't buy one for $49 and park a Bentley firearm in it!! LOL

Looking at completed auctions at gunbroker.com shows a minimum of $2,000 for LNIB elites. From your description you won't get hurt on your deal. I have always loved Colts and never had the cash to buy a python. They are a great gun and will shoot for a long time if you don't exceed the current SAAMI pressure of 34,000 psi. The topstrap will stretch if you exceed the current spec.

It sounds like a pretty reasonable price for an unfired Elite.

I'd ask that for my LNIB Royal Blue 6" Python made in the mid-70s...and mine has had the action tuned and been fired

In this current market, $2000 is excellent for a NIB Python Elite.
I've seen them change hands between $2500-$3000 this year.

FYI: The Python Elite is no better than the earlier Python. Same parts, just different roll marks on the barrel.
The general public has an idea that because it stamped ELITE on the barrel that it's the best. This is not true.

Indeed. I have read that the Elite Pythons are no different than the normal Pythons. Thank you guys for the info. Now I really can't wait for my tax refund to get that thing home.
