Very Disturbing Letter from Senator Saxby Chambliss regarding the AWB

As many of you may know, Saxby Chambliss is supposed to be a conservative Republican from Georgia, with a strong RKBA, pro 2A stand.

I recently wrote my senators expressing my desire for them to vote against a renewal of the AWB. I got a response back from Zell Miller ( a conservative Democrat) saying in plain English that he would oppose a renewal of the ban.

Chambliss' reply was much more vague, and he never made a commitment. He said he appreciated my concern for this issue, and that if the issue came to a vote, he would take my opinion into consideration as he knows that a renewal of the AWB would have impact on sportsmen in rural Georgia.

Now this is a very disturbing reply to me. I expected him to say in plain English that he was against renewal, but he didnt. I am even more confused about how he thinks sportsmen will be impacted by the AWB, as not too many sportsmen are using guns with pistol grips, bayonet lugs, and high cap mags to shoot deer and quail.

I think he may be as lost as a whore in a church on this issue. Saxby, my God, if you are listening it's not about sportsmen!

I had been expecting the AWB would die. This kind of response from a conservative republican really has me worried.

Damn, I was writing to him the other day and got sidetracked, guess I better get on with it. Miller and my House Rep Linder are solidly anti-AWB... Linder has his 2A stance right on top of his issues list on his website: http://linder.house.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Issues.Detail&Issue_id=89 Too bad the Dems hosed Barr and combined his district with Linder's, they insured they got rid of one good conservative that way...

It may well be that his office sends the same letter to those for and against renewing the Black Rifle Ban. Happens all the time, and saves the staffers time.

This is disturbing because AWBsunset.com (http://www.awbansunset.com/senate.html) gives him the highest rating which indicates that they have confirmation of his stand.

I guess I'll have to press Ms. Hutchison and Mr. Cornyn just to make sure they are on board.

Maybe he's waiting for a higher bid.

I am even more confused about how he thinks sportsmen will be impacted by the AWB,

Ruger 10/22S with after market folding stocks, flash hiders, and 25 round mags are very common truck guns in NW Georgia from what I've seen.
My guess is Saxby knows this.

as not too many sportsmen are using guns with pistol grips, bayonet lugs, and high cap mags to shoot deer and quail.

While most deer hunters in Georgia are probably using a model 700 or a Marlin 30/30 to hunt with, the majority are probably against more gun control.Rural hunters in Georgia are not the same as some hunters in the midwest.

Follow up you letter with a phone call to the appropriate staffer.

January will begin the public debate over the AWB. Look for many a varmint to get cold feet when the pressure is applied.

Could be Saxby has already rolled over.

Yep. Letters are better than e-mails. Maybe even better than phone calls.

But if you have the time and gumption to drive down to the office during business hours.... that's rare.

Chambliss owes his Senate seat largely to W, who stumped for him heavily in Ga and whose campaign was behind the ads that greatly helped to oust Max Cleland. He's not going to stray far from the W reservation on the AWB, esp, this far ahead.

I think Monkeyleg hit the nail on the head. I am a lot more interested in what my rep has actually done in the past on issuses like this than what is on his form letter. The key thing here is that you bothered to write and express your veiw. That, I think, does not go unnoticed by your local rep.

I'm going to make an observation and a prediction; based on some pretty good "information":

1. Yes, there's going to be a lot of Hoop-la in the Media, and the Demon-crats are going to ride this "horse" hard, but later- much closer to the election to get their "constituency" riled to "action" and perhaps sway some of the "fence sitters" to their side. Saxby C. is just following the "W" protocol as they have been doing on all the other "soft" issues of the demon's; IE: doing the political equivalent of the "Rope-a-dope". Bush has already said that he would sign the bill; "If it reaches my desk".

Folks, that a "HUGE" "IF"!

2. Expect the Demon-crats to shoot thereselves in the foot again. Their version of the bill is going to be so full of extreame measures that not even most of the Dem's will suppport it if they value re-election. Zig-Zag Zell's line is very indicative of where this thing is going.

Don't expect the bill to ever get out of "committee" !!!
(remember who has the "majority" now---and control of the committee's)

Be patient and watch, and PRAY I'm right !!!

AND VOTE !!!

It's EITHER going to be a "BIG FIGHT" !!!!!; or go out with a wimper; but either way It's going to be "noisey" with a lot of hot air from the left.

Just keep your powder dry, and be prepared to put your money where your heart is...................

Saxby C. is just following the "W" protocol as they have been doing on all the other "soft" issues of the demon's; IE: doing the political equivalent of the "Rope-a-dope". Bush has already said that he would sign the bill; "If it reaches my desk".. . . . . .and then there is Campaign Finance Control. Bush said he would not sign legislation unless it contained 6 IIRC provisions. Congress gave him legislation that contained nothing of his demands. He punted to the supreme court and the rest is history.

Frankly Bush has no more credibility with me than did Clinton. You simply can not predict what he will do. His objective is the acquisition of power. He will do and say anything to achieve his goal. He may put up a good show about being a principaled leader but I tend to looik at actions and not promises. The joker has betrayed the spirit and letter of the consititution and bill of rights. How can anyone possibly conclude he will suddenly grow a pair of principals.

It ain't gonna happen. If Rove tells Bush he can pick up more votes by signing a new AWB than he can by vetoing, it will be done. Bush is not bothered by principal. Any argument based on his allegiance to an ethic will be proven to be false.

The bill will be introduced by Diane Frankenswine and UpChuck Schumer. It will contain all the BS in the current California law plus the kitchen sink for good measure. It will be touted by the DemocRATS and the media as "common sense gun safety" and anyone who dares to speak out against it will be labeled a right wing extremist and a puppet of the EEEEEEVIL NRA. Because Frankenswine will load it down with so much garbage, I doubt it will get out of committee. Look for the Million Mommies and the Brady Bunch to make a huge production. I can see the empty shoes of the so-called victims on the capitol steps now. The slugs at ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC will flog this one hard. Time to ditch the TV I think. I haven't read War and Peace yet.

Watch the bill about to be submitted in Maryland by Neil Quinter

Neil was Diane Feinstein's Chief Legal Council
